Hey another Bugman on the board :-).

He looks so far very good, I like the reddish nose and the beard a lot. The metallic parts could be indeed given a bit more depth and detail.

I personally don't like the idea of the blue cape, it wouldn't really fit imho. So far you used mainly warm colors, so I would rather try a dark red or green, or similar.

I dunno, the shield at the base of his barrels will be blue as it is his colours. Hence why I thought of a blue cape, maybe a deep navy blue shade. The trim around the edge (the fur parts) will be white/greyish with the golden pattern on the cloak.

As to the armour, any ideas on how to improve it? The blue ink would give it a magical look but I've never been all that good with silver, to be I try to leave some ink in the recesses but otherwise paint it. I also like quite bright armour, I don't see a dwarf going into battle with old, worn and rusty armour. But that's just fluffwise.

hey, I really like beard color You managed to achieve! very nice and natural :D
red nose is also great accent - very "dwarf-like"
if I were You I would paint his cape in natural color like brown or such; it's dwarf - not a pointy-eared, spellcasting elf wimp :army:

Aye, but my fear is the brown would make him look too dull. With the blue he would get a little bit of colour but not much as only the back will see it, only the fur can bee seen from the front.

Ahh... the problems of painting. :S

Thanks for the replies, and I now will announce that he is finished! Just him base left now.

Against other peoples advice I chose to do his cloak a deep, dark blue. Starting with a mix of chaos black and midnight blue I then moved onto adding more midnight into the mix before adding regal blue as the first layer highlight. Then I added enchanted blue as the second highlight and to finish once more enchanted blue. Very nice IMO.

The gold was also done at this stage. Starting from a Tin Bitz base I move through Dwarf Bronze onto Shining Gold and after a few layers of SG I added Burnished Gold, followed by a fianl layer of Burnished Gold a slight highlight of Mithril Silver. The whole lot was then given a wash of watered down flesh wash. The belt on the front was done slightly different, a Brazen Brass base with Dwarf bronze for highlight.

The final stages on Bugman now! The cloak has a furlined trim, so I decided to keep it in the theme of the cloak itself. Starting with a codex grey base I overbrushed fortress Grey followed by a mix of fortress and skull white and fianlly a light layer of skull white.

A few small items were done next; on his left side he has a pipe and a pouch. These were both done from a scorched brown base, then bestial followed by a highlight of snakebite leather. The axe handle was done Scab red, Red Gore and highlighted with Blood red. The rings on his fingers were done in mithril silver, the ruby was Red Gore with a Blood Red highlight. The B on the flaggon was an attempt at blending, sort of. Going from codex grey upto skull white, seems to have worked a bit.

The last part was the ale in the flaggon. Using a mix of bleached bone and snakebite I lightly put this on the bottom of the ale, then highlighted using bleached bone and skull white followed by pure skull white. And to finish it off I gave it a really, really weak wash of flesh wash to tint it slightly.

Comments welcome. The base will be started tomorrow, so keep an eye out. ;)

The cloak looks nice this way! Still not too fond on met metal (silver parts) though! They are too overwhelming Imho... There's a lot of metal parts on him but you can't help that ofcourse! I'd also suggest to do the inside fur from his cloak in a different clour as it matches the silver too much, can't really tell the difference if you know what I mean...

Skrit - Well as you said he's covered in metal, as are all dwarfs, and this makes him to paint well without him seeming too bright and such. I did add a very watery Blue Ink to the armour and axe head, but it's quite hard to see. As for the fur, I dunno. The silver doesn't really seem to 'touch' the fur but you maybe right, I'll think on it. But any suggestions if I change it?

Demi_M - Bah!! The blue works!! I agree the pics maybe a tad off this time, I'll try to improve it and the base will be started tonight. Expect to see it Monday maybe or the weekend after. We'll see.

Thanks for the comments.
