I tried taking some pics with the new lightbox I have but for some reason they came out looking really, well, wet for some reason. Like they had gloss coat sprayed on them.

add matt varnish to some of your layers of paint, that'll help it ;)

I was struck by the idea today of mounting this fellow on a converted High Elf dragon instead of the Juggernaut. I could possibly make it so the rider could be switched between mounts as well. Any thoughts on the dragon idea, what I might want to keep in mind or try for to make it GD worthy?

you'll have to make the dragon more chaosy and evil ;) but i think that sort of conversion work will help pick it out from the crowd.

@Wraithlord - that would mean a lot more work to be done :) would that be the same category? I never recall which mini goes to monster, and which not :)

@arctica, Wraithlord - that elf dragon is based on the chaos dragon from GD UK 2003 (by Mike Anderson). Here's the pic, it might give you some ideas, Wraithlord. Conversion will surely help to distinct your work, just be careful to not use too many of Anderson's concepts - judges might remember his work :)

That is an awesome piece, i've never seen it before actually. I think the paintjob adds alot to the "chaosy" factor you're looking for Wraith. If you look at the dragon there's actually not much in the way of apparel and decoration which makes it more chaos, except that he has converted it to look much more aggressive then the high elf ones flying around. Also the base adds alot of effect to the model.

One thing I am thinking of doing, paint wise, is to paint it up similar to the carnosaur I did a couple of years ago and making it look like the dragon itself is made of lava. Here is a pic of it:

If I were to go with that and also do some OSL off the body of the model, would I really need to go terribly overboard on the conversion? That paint, some added spikes coming out of the leg joints perhaps, chains in place of the standard reins, and possibly a cool looking banner (unsure here as I am not all that confident in my freehand abilities). Also, what would you suggest I use for the chains themselves? GS or modellers chains or something else entirely?
