no problem with real life and its advantages here :)

just remember that in miniature painting you often cheat. you often paint light where there shouldn't be any, you exaggerate contrasts, and change reflections from NMM: you may not remember the discussion when a few painters thought that the next step in NMM after SE-NMM will be NMM reflecting the surroundings, especially the base and parts of the miniature. somehow it didn't work. And SE NMM always looks unrealistic and fake. Why? If you have your mini in a cabinet - the sky and the ground should be in the color of your cabinet. If you have it on the table in your room, the ground should be colored like the table, and the sky in the color of the room. But your miniature doesn't change all the time, so it always (or most of he time) looks wrong.

As for the shadows and lights on the eldar. I told you mine were not perfect, but where I was going to was that the legs are generally tubes, like pipes or exhaust pipes. And on these the reflection is usually stretched lengthways, see:

the legs are at a similar angle as the pipe on this photo

you see what I mean - and as I said, mine was not good enough for sure, but it was just a quick painting in photoshop. just to give you some food for thought...

I can definately see where you're coming from Mahon, i think like you pointed out the whole SE-NMM and NMM in many cases is very subjective and depends on the angle and position of the "viewer" i looked at some other examples and found examples of what i thought it was and more of examples similar to yours. So hmmm, but the more i look at examples, the horizon follows the longest relfective part of the object, so i think i change my statement earlier and when painting SE-NMM i would follow your original photoshopped sketch :) It looks more correct, just need to try it out myself now :D

Oh and for those who are looking more into it, i found this nice little gallery done by Shane Gehlert, he does chrome effects stunningly and i think it can help alot when im going to try this effect.

That's jolly useful, you just pointed out without even trying the one thing that was making my chrome look odd (now that I've adjusted horizon lines) which is a lack of grey. Shall amend and repost soon, all being well since I'm painting atm.

Finished all the chrome pieces now, paying special attention to angles and suspected reflections. Thanks to those that offered advice and pictures, it does help a lot. Now to find out if I've managed to put it to good use.

I've started work on the black and red quartering too, but that's far from finished yet since it's only basecoats.
