After some advice i tried to push some warm greens into the mid tones and some more yellows into the highlights to get some tonal variation, iv also lightened the shadows around his chest and neck, i know some areas need some smoothin out, ill go back over the mini later on after work
small update, am really strugglin to photograph the highlights, iv gone back and lightened the face up alot, and change the colour of the shadows a little, i think am at a point where am just going to call it a day and just put it down as a learning experience, am at the point were am just going to ruin the paint job if i keep going
Hi,
your work looks better and better on each update. The skin is maybe not perfect, but I would leave it on that stage especially if you have no idea how to proceed. The lips, scars and eyes are great - don't touch them
The metalics on the other hand, doesn't seem finished to me. They would look better if they weren't so shiny - some shades (mat) on the not exposed parts will do the job.
I like the gold metallics but the silber scratches look too strong and exaggerated. Which makes them a little out of place.
And I still believe that skin needs bolder highlights. Nearly up to white IMO.
Got some more work done on the gaul, hair is mostly done, iv used green/red/brown washes to add some depth, although i need to put a few more washes on his brows and tash to add definition, iv given the helmet a few more washes to stop it lookin gold and more bronze, hopefully thats worked, leather is done-ish (am really not happy with the straps, any advice?) and iv painted his necklace in stone although i may go back over and smooth the blending and add some green washes.
Excellent work now. Love the different tones on his skin and the richness of color of his helmet.
Now let us see what you can do with the cape and the hair - which is often considered the most difficult thing to paint well.
The wounds look very believable, but the dark shadow on his chest is a little out of place to me. Still a very good one, much better than it seemed to be
I really like the scar, helmet and cloak clasps (with pendant) but I think the shadows on his skin are far too dark, unless he's wearing makeup to enhance his colarbone features it just looks like mud to me.
The shading on his cheekbones seems more real to me than the ones on his chest, I do hope your still working on that part
Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again
