Using a file or sandpaper etc to make it smooth.

ah "to make it smooth" basically. or more like "in this pic you see yada yada and the smoothing by file/sandpaper"
I thought it was the name of some paste/putty...because there's grey areas over the white miliput. maybe thats just grey miliput....hmmm....

That last link looks more like it has been cut away...
And of course a very matte layer of black paint will also help to hide small mistakes in the base edge.

But was it ever secret?
I got myself some terracotta today (small amount) so will be testing that out before ordering some at some point.
Cheers for all the input guys, was so valuable!
Any other amazing thoughts to share?

nothing amazing, i'm just not sure the terracotta miliput is the best one to try it

I don't get what you mean there. if i say "no magic" anywhere it is because people have the weirdest thoughts of how anyone did this and that, when the simplest and best way is a piece of sandpaper or something else you learned in primary school (uh...well age 10-14) art/craft-lessons. this isnt mean arrogant, i just want to emphasise how complicated people think sometimes. just do it =)
