Thanks mahon.

Last night I shaded the marines a lot more with a wash of dilute flesh wash and a glaze of vajello dark fleshtone. They look a lot darker now. Tonight I plan to highlight like the example above with the orginal Iyandyn Darksun.

Right, time for another update!

I've been busily working away at these for the last couple of days and I must admit I'm feeling excited about them, for one main reason. I don't think I've ever actually painted a full squad of anything before this, and now that the marines are coming together and all I have to do are the details and tidying up I can really see progress and my first "real" squad for my Lamenters army.

So what have I done since my last update? Well initially I was going to stick with the Idyaden Darksun colour and highlight up from there using a mixture of Darksun and bleached bone, so I tryed to do this and I found myself not liking the colour that much, so I then decided to go the oppsite direction. I gave each marine a wash with dilute flesh wash and then a glaze of vallejo Dark Fleshtone. Those washes created a much darker yellow, nearly a brown infact so then I went back and highlighted with pure Darksun. This gave me a much nicer "mustard" colour which I was quite pleased with.

I then went and painted the edges of the bases with black and it is amazing how much this draws the squad together. Finally I put down the basecoat for the freehand veteran skulls and hearts on their respective shoulder pads for each marine.

So here's the group picture, I was experimenting with using natural light from my window, but its quite overcast today so maybe there was not enough light.

Right a list of things I want to get done before the first of November.
1. Highlight the red of the weapons
2. Finish all metals
3. Highlight and finish all the skin
4. Highlight and finish the bases
5. All other details
6. Armour battle damage
7. Green OSL from the helmet eyes

It seems like a lot when I list it like that but a lot of that list can get down quite quickly. I am confident I can get this first squad in on time and that is just over 300pts done in the first month!

So any comments, critisims, tips, advice just let me know.

Thanks nameless, I actually sort of struggling to get some decent pictures, so any tips in that regard would be useful.

I think I might have to resort to individual pictures or two or three marines to one picture, with one overall picture.

apart from small pics I think some more highlights would be nice - that's army painting therefore models will be watched from a distance :)

Right here we go again,

a few better photo's this time, some fairly close up ones too. I had a go at OSL and I was quite happy with the way it turned out, but looking at the photo's I can see that I might need to do another few glazes of the green to get the impact I think. Apart from that still plently to do as you can see

another victim of my-minis-need-osl-on-them syndrome :(
Sue posted some very helpful tips for OSL in "painting" section of this forum. Why don't you check it?
Taking a look at your mini, I'd make illuminated surface smaller, emphasize upper edge of an eye (it would catch a lot of light), and - most important - change colour of a light. Now it looks like yellow on yellow.

Right its been a while since i've posted. Thanks guys for your comments so far.

I got this squad done in time for the 1st of November. I then picked a scout squad to do for the 1st of December, which I also got done. December was given as a free month what with the holidays and all, so to date this is what I have produced of my 2000pt army.

So for the 1st of Feburary I am going painting up my leader, which is going to be the libarian, not for any particular gaming reason but because I like the model. To date I have the blues, yellows, whites and flesh areas finished more or less. (of course if you feel I need to do some more speak up now or forever hold your peace!)

I'm currently working on the metals and have the golds more or less finished since this picture has been taken. So let me hear what you guys think...........
