There is a most excellent glaze tutorial at Brushthralls.com if you click here.

As for me, I use glaze mediums all the time. I paint my figures just like most everyone else does, layering and highlighting. I then apply darker tones of glazes over what I've already painted (usually of the same colors) and then wet-blend highlights...with maybe a bit of feathering. Glazes are fun to use once you get the hang of it.
