Oh slayer's become more usefell when you use Goreshade. He has a spell or feat that makes them stronger or something like that. I've to go and look it up again

Thanks ToMaZ! But now I'll have to decide between four factions!

whoops
I didn't mean to do that...
And to buy all four is a tad expensive isn't it? I guess you should decide by which models you like best

Greetings! Not to ressurect an older thread, but I would highly suggest the Battle Box option. All of the Battle Boxes are basically balanced against each other, so even though they don't have the exact same point values, they are great for learning.
Also, the Battle Boxes come with the Quick Start Rules (which you can also download from the Privateer Press website. Everything you need to know to start playing the game. Once you've gotten the basics of the game down by playing several Battle Box games, then start moving up to infantry and such.
Buying the rulebook is handy, but if you play with folks that already have it, you should be fine. I'd ask to borrow it for a day or two and read over all the rules (things are slightly more complex than the QS rules), but you can get along without it. One of the best things about WM is that you get the rules for a unit when you buy the unit. At no point are you really forced to buy Prime or any of the other books in order to play the game.

several thoughts of unexperienced cryx player
after wm battle I had a preasure to win (
) last evening I decided to start spamming... eee... posting some conclusions from playing cryx army
any suggesrtions from more experienced than I players will be very appreciated: in my city there are only 2 guys playing warmachine...
anyway:
on 350pts I fielded goreshade, skarlock, 2 pistol wraiths, 2x6 mechanithralls and slayer against sorsha, juggeneraunt, devastator and 3 winter wizards (forgot their name: thair chef is called "koldun" );
things I've learnt:
-it sucks when sorsha uses feat and makes my units static...
-it sucks when slayer is charged be khador jugger
-it's really worth to field mc-thralls!
I managed to reach khador devastator with only one thrall but I rolled 3x6 on damage roll!!!
combined with combo strike it caused 13 damage points!!! woo-hoo!!!
-mage blight: extremly nasty when You can get close enought to enemy spellcasting units
-skarlock: at goreshade's army: waste of 16 points
I'd probably prefer another 2 mc thralls or necrotech and scrappie

RE: several thoughts of unexperienced cryx player
hehe... well, you came against sorscha. It's hard to win against sorsha if the controlling player uses her feat + windrush.
What you should have done is cast mageblight every turn to cancel sorscha's feat and windrush/spellcasting. You can disable the jacks really easy with the pistol wraiths each turn (you only need to hit 3 times agains DEF10, no damage needed)
The greylords should be destroyed with shooting or an area of effect spell. You can't come close with regular infantry because they use their spray attack to destroy them.
More importantly: Use soulgate to transport the slayer near the enemy warcaster (use a ghost for getting close) Together with mageblight it should have taken care of sorscha, or at least tied her up and hurt her, so you can use goreshade or something else to finish her off.
I know it's hard to do this with sorscha's feat involved, she's just an extremely strong caster that's hard to take down.
