Im a freehand fan... so for me its perfectly normal that a tank has lots of freehands on it (specially since SM fluff is so ornamental relating to all sacred armour... its not silly not a fire beacon its SM fluff to take sacred armour and reverence it.... also mekes more ense to me than camo tanks... how many camos spacemarine armour chapter do you know?)
Wings on deamons and skin full of freehands are ok IF they look like tatoos and are not the final aim of the mini (golgotha by victor).
As said before skulls on Tovs would be even nicer if they were not so vivid and more blended with skin tones (someting that trov can do but said he hadnt time to do so... you lazy git^^)
All in all i love freehands and they fit most tanks or deamon skins but if they are only there more like the final purpose of mini then is a bit to much for me.
Oh and sculpt alone of Trov deamon would take a slayer

that's just what I wanted to say:
it's just a matter of taste - I prefer "realisic" camo etc than

-marines;
I've just thought that people who can't paint freehand shouldn't criticize it so You may pi*s on what I wrote about that... :silenced:
as I mentioned - personal testes generally vary

can't we just agree on:
1. tastes differ and there's no use talking about it.
2. everyone needs to like his own minis and is free to do what he likes and let what he doesnt...

It has variously been claimed that the Codex Astartes was composed by Roboute Guilliman, Leman Russ and Rogal Dorn. The contents have varied too: while modern Space Marine imagery makes almost no use of camouflage, this was originally held to be advised by the Codex Astartes (although ignored by many Chapters) and many contemporary Space Marines of the game's early years wore camouflaged armour.
I don't have the books with me but you can check the quote
here.
@Trov - calm down a bit. I think you're overreacting. if you don't want your minis to be commented, why do you show them to people at all?

nobody said your minis aren't good, people just told what they wolud like better. i think it's a normal thing... you presented so many top-quality works, that if people see something a bit weaker (even if it's still better than many minis we see) they are surprised. live with it, take it as a compliment
People are talking mostly about their tastes - do they like the actual trend of paining freehands or not. I think that freehands are a great methods of showing one's skill. the other thing is taste - one person will like it another one won't. well, that's normal IMO. i would also prefer to see freehand painting "justified" by fluff, story, reality, etc. but if one does it even just to demonstrate their skills - that's ok. their choice. but not everybody has to like it, right?
as for the SM freehands, I don't think they're a bad idea. SM armour and stuff is revered and treated like ancient objects of cult. These are like sacred items, and they are often of cancient origin, so why should it be criticized? If the SM believe their faith will protect them, why bother with camo. OTOH (just like it was mentioned in the quote I used in the beginning of this message) it was mentioned that SM used camouflage and there are pictures which can be used as confirmation. now you decide if your faith is strong enough

It's pissing me off to state a million times in a million forums how i felt about the skulls myself and still people keep repeating themself over and over again, and this Topic initially sounded a lot like trolling. It turned out not to be and in the next post I read my name again. you don't have to understand but I won't calm down on this one. Also it is not anything against anyone in this topic or elswhere, it is about the topic itself. I made my final statement above btw.
just one request please, don't tell me to not get pissed off about people not liking my minis, or criticising them, because it is fine, since they often tell me the things I saw myself, and I am not pissed off about that, not the slightest...If you know me, I am the worst critic towards my self and realistic enough to know that I have a lot to improve.

mahon - lock the topic please

I think everyone wrote what they had in mind and there's no need to use it as a platform for quarrels etc...

I'm sorry Trov, I didn't mean offense, I didn't want to tear up old wounds, but I haven't read your statements on the skulls anywhere yet. I just checked your Belakor thread in the showcase, but even there I only found that you won't rush again to be ready for an event. Sorry again...

For Trov - to save him fromk Troving (throwing

) up
For Demi - because he might be right
For everybody - to let things cool down (and we may re-open it when we are ready to discuss it again)
THREAD LOCKED!
and now go and think of some cool camo pattern for Space Marines! :
