admit it - it's almost tabletop quality, not a 2.3!

To be fair to that last post, the painter has kept generally within the areas the colours are meant to be and given an attempt at highlighting ;) plus unlike most models rated low, he has removed mold lines for the most part. :)i'd have given the model a 4

yeah, while we're talking about high-rated models and snipers, think about this guy who must be thinking: "some snipers must have gotten me!"

I've always tried not to think too much about the scores on CMoN, but it's hard to ignore them. I wish there was an option just to not show them at all.

For the mini that mahon posted, I'd give it more than a 2.3, for no other reason that the damn guidelines state that 5 is tabletop quality, and I've seen worse tabletop than what the guy posted. Now if 1 was tabletop quality, it would be a different story. Is it artistic? No. Is it good? Hardly. Is there paint on most of the figure, in the right areas, and reasonable color choices? Sure. Even some highlighting attempts (as artica mentioned), so that's a bonus.

I for once have quited posting my pictures there, not for the scores but for the lack of critics, i think that if you give a score you should say why thats the least you can do for the artist work

Same here. If I am going to post anything there now it's because I am looking to sell something and want a lot of traffic. But even that really doesn't pan out.

Back on topic, Looks like this person is trying, and I think if one was to score it low at lease give feedback in order to help improve there painting.

Guys, that looks like my first attempts some days ago :))) I think that painter needs support and lots of advices to stay with the hobby and improve. That's why I think that low scores need more ideas and critics than numbers. Numbers are enough for experienced-supa-dupa-god-like-best painters, who are listening superlatives every day and from every side.

well, let's make some points clear:
1. CMON is still the largest collection of photos of miniatures
2. love it or hate it, it's easier to check just that one site than many lesser sites if you want to see cool miniatures
3. I don't think anybody is posting photos to CMON and hoping for serious feedback anymore
4. many people post to CMON because they want or need their works to be noticed
4a. ... because they want to sell miniatures or find customers
4b. ... because they need ego boost ;)
5. some people don't have any other galleries than CMON

so for me CMON is just a huge collection of pics and with many visitors.
I don't think many will disagree...
