Gwahyr the Merciless

Post by superhessianv »

No primer -> more time to put togethe other stuff.
I like this Mini as it is not as static as many others and hopefully I will be able to arange it the way it looks like hes jumping off something or onto someone/thing whatever... We will see.

So thats him fresh from the box

I get all my things together to start assembling

First I take off the metall bits and pieces that dont belong where they are and drill a whole in the bottom of the mini to fix it on a cork as I use to do for painting.

Also I usually drill holes into the feet so I can later use pins to fix the Mini to a base.
In this case one pin went into the bottom, one in a foot, which is really tricky as Gwahyrs legs are so thin you really have to be careful not to drill holes in them...
Now it looks like that,

The arms get pins too...

Now Gwahyr is ready to be put on his "working base". Usually I glue a piece of fake rubber cork (easily available by finishing a bottle of wine befor working) onto a base as a stand, The good thing about them fake corks is that you can simply stick the pins into them. They hold the mini strong enough whilst working on it and later its easy to pull the mini and his pins back out.

Here we go...

Now I glue on the head (I admit, I pinned the head too, I like the thought of the mini being kinda robust :bonk:

Next step is filling unwanted gaps with green stuff.

Now he looks like this and waits to be primed...

Hopefully, if the primer gets here soon, there will be more colorfull pics shortly.

Ah i do like wips, this will be interesting. I've never actually seen this mini before, but i've never really seen alot of the rackham miniatures. What made you choose to put a hole between his legs as support? seems rather painful ;)

The hole between his legs is only for support while painting, it will be removed when he is moved to his final base.
Usually I drill both legs/ feet, but this mini is supposed to later have his second foot in the air, so ist better not to drill there.
A second pin is needed, cause otherwise the mini rotates on the cork. We dont wont him do get dizzy, do we? :)

Its been a while now but there are major news!
Gwahyr gets company. I decided to put him into battle with another sword fighter. Here comes the reason why progress got stuck for so long: I had to find an appropriate opponent. Finaly I discovered "Valeros, Iconic Male Human Fighter" on the Reaper site. His pose is equivalently swift looking so I chose him as Gwahiyrs opponent. As there are 2 minis now, I also had to think about a base. I like bark as base its rough enough to resemble natural underground such as stone or a forest . Also I chose a stone to put on the abrk to give Gwahyr something to jump down onto Valeros from.

First I sealed the bark with milliput onboth sides, than set up the stones. The whole thing was then airbrushed to give it a basic coating.

The base looks still a bit empty with just the two fighters, so I decided to sculpt a tree. Ive never done this before, but Im confident to succeed :shifty:
This is my tree so far...

and here are all the parts together so you get an idea of the size

you may have realised tha Valeros is already painted to a certain degree.
As there were many taste objections regarding the bright colors I tend to use (just thinking of the tranny granny) I will try to keep it a bit more realistic this time and this is where i got so far:

Valeros suffers some severe moulding-lines that I could hardly get rid of. You can see them in the close up in his hair and at the neck of his armor.
I tried to filem scratch etc. but couldnt get them away... Maybe you have some suggestion for me how to deal with the bastards?? :?:

Cheerio and happy weekend!
