The original color I was going to use is Vallejo Japanese Uniform. I didn't like the way it looked when I started doing the highlights, so I may go with something else. It's really just a color experiment to see what I can get away with.

What I have posted is an entire day's painting session of 4-8 hours (didn't really watch the clock yesterday) and I hope to do an equally long session today. I'm able to see the pictures right now, let me know if they're still not working and I'll get them re-uploaded.

Giving Photobucket a try since the other host is crapping out. :x

Pushed the shading a bit more, still undecided on the highlight color. The frontal clothing is also at the same step although I want to start on the plating before I post any pictures.

I'm not sure what is the final effect you want to achieve but this color would work great as metal oxidation

The oxidization affect was unintentional, the main goal was to try something different. I'm debating adding some darker tones to the shadows to see if that helps make them less statuesque. To answer your question Mahan, no, they aren't supposed to be statues.

I would like to make the armor a worn white or bleached bone color, but it's not really in line with trying "something different" since I see a lot of that on CMoN. My alternative is to give my first go at NMM, so I've been reading up on that. Should have another update by tonight.

so the problem is that shadows don't look like shadows but like oxidation.

not dark enough, not muted enough. add dark blue or dark brown to the deeper shadows and you'll be on the right track

Will do. Just spent the past hour or two mulling over tutorials and galleries and I have a few ideas.

Edit: Spent three more hours working on the cloaks. I made some very good progress on lighting transitions, however I feel it's going to be a lot easier to strip them down than to go over the old layers of paint.

Lesson learned, I can't change the way natural light works and expect it to look right. Shadows have to be the darkest point and highlights are the lightest. That's just the way things work.

Been a while, so small update. Here's my 70's superhero (villain?) Eversor Assassin in his retro spandex suit.

The painting method I'm going with is a new one for me in that I usually prime black and shade up from there. This time I decided to map out all of my shadows and midtones, then I'll be using washes/glazes to smooth out the transitions followed by a layer of highlights.

Just started on this yesterday. More updates later if I don't sod it up somehow. :bonk:
