Wyrd Painting Contest: Total Testosterone vs. Femme Fatale

Post by Nameless »

We have been running painting contests on Wyrd Miniatures for over three years now and they keep getting bigger and better but we decided it was time for a change this year.

There will be several changes and additions over the next year and we will be combining some contests, introducing new themes as well as additional contests for terrain, conversions and sculpting in the future while running them alongside our popular Iron Painter!

This year we have had people asking after both the Femme Fatale and Total Testosterone contests and we've decided in this particular case to try something new and combine the two together while simplifying the contest and offering some new options.

The contest will run from April 1st through May 15th and during that time competition entries can be submitted. At the close of the contest, voting will commence for one week where you will be allowed to vote anonymously through the Wyrd forum software as well as leave comments and critique which we have found our previous entrants have greatly enjoyed. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.

Now with this contest, you can enter either a male miniature, or a female miniature in their respective categories or if you would like to try your hand at the Duel or Diorama category, a combination of the two together.

The miniature(s) can be from ANY MANUFACTURER. We are not elitists here at Wyrd and would like to support the hobby and all within it!

The specific rules for the contest can be found on the Wyrd Miniatures website on the forums under 'Wyrd Painting Contest: Rules and Information'. I would really like to stress folks to read the rules, as folks tend to miss them for some reason and they end up misunderstanding the contest, the theme or disqualify themselves. The main thing to keep in mind is that all entries are supposed to be anonymous!

The categories for the contest are:
FEMME FATALE: For the seductive, irresistible and ultimately dangerous ladies. The only requirement here is that the ladies look good and are dangerous. Any weapon toting, spell wielding woman that can take your breath away, literally, will do just fine!
TOTAL TESTOSTERONE: Overwhelming muscles, the need for a big weapon and the underlying instinct to show off for the fairer sex? If the answer is yes, then your miniature is more than qualified for the Total Testosterone category!
DUEL OR DIORAMA: Swords slashing, guns blazing, lovers meeting or murder most dire. Have a duel or diorama of a grander scale, this is the category for it.
Wyrd Miniatures naturally provides the prizes for this contest, with each category winning having a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize as well as numerous 'Random Schmuck' and 'Voting Schmuck' packages we give out randomly to encourage your participation. Miniatures can, and do commonly place in more than one category.
1ST PLACE PER CATEGORY: $40 Gift Certificate.
2ND PLACE PER CATEGORY: $25 Gift Certificate.
3RD PLACE PER CATEGORY: $15 Gift Certificate.

BEST BASE OR DIORAMA: Full set of Wyrd Inserts and Accessories and a $50 Gift Certificate.

BEST OF WYRD: Wyrd T-Shirt of your choice and $50 Gift Certificate.

BEST OF SHOW: Wyrd Miniatures Trophy Bust
That's right! For those of you who have managed to read through the rules this far, we now have a VERY cool Wyrd Miniatures Trophy sculpted for us by the talented Steve Saunders. This resin bust will NOT be for sale and can only be attained through winning one of the Wyrd Contests. We'll be showcasing this here shortly as it is currently being cast.

These contests have been a great source of fun and inspiration for us and we look forward to seeing all the fantastic and enthusiastic entries. Thank you! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Well there goes me trying to staying out of any painting contest this month to focus on GenCon entries.
If it wasn't for the gutter my mind would be homeless.

To be honest I feel that the level of works submited is in fact lower than a year before. This might be due to limited entry categories (only true: male, female and duel). It's just there are not many works that make me say "Wow - that's great!", despite overall high level of works. And the weirdest thing is that the works in male category seem to be the best.
Do not underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers...

lot of painters active on wyrd forum were exhausted by IP contest, I suppose that some of US painters concentrated on reapercon and gd baltimore entries.
BTW - wyrd is giving 5 schmuck prizes away. all one needs to do is to comment on all entries and vote in all categories :)
