pae's WIPs

Post by pae »

Here's one that I've just started. It will be for a competition, so feel free to be as harsh with it as you'd like. The piece is Rhymaiss from Arte Factory (Kraken Editions).

Just the skintones so far. The eyes are also painted, but I'm thinking they'll need to change. Too much white highlight in them at the moment.

Paints for the skintones:
VMC 824 German Cam. Orange Ochre (B)
VMC 921 English Uniform (S)
VMC 843 Cork Brown (H)
VMC 804 Beige Red(H)
VMC 815 Basic Skintone (H)
Then glazed with 824 and re-highlighted with 815.

I know the blends need to be better from shade to highlight on her arms, and going up to the hips. Also, the shading on the lower back is a bit too harsh at the moment.

Edit: Thanks Mahon for pointing me in the right direction about the errors I was getting trying to add this thread. Apparently the software doesn't like the i-umlaut character.

Great start i do like the skin tones atm :) The eyes do seem a little bit off but not all that noticeable to me.

A few more hours in over the last couple of nights.

Smoothed out the skin a bit, and did a bit of darklining there (which still needs to be touched up a bit). Also haven't touched the eyes again, but they need to be redone.

Colors used on the dress (all Vallejo Model Color):
840 Light Turqouise (B)
966 Turquoise + 981 Orange Brown (S1 + Glazes)
966 Turquoise + 862 Black Grey (S2)
840 Light Turquoise + 808 Green Blue + 954 Yellow Green (H1)
H1 + 906 Pale Blue (H2)

Still a bit rough in places, and the highlights need to come up more. They seem to be getting lost in the photos.

The cloth is a nice contrasting colour with the skin, one thing that got my attention was the back of her skirt the blending isn't as smooth as the front to me, it looks a tiny bit more rough. Anyway its a minor thing and not in all places, im sure a couple layers of glaze would sort that out. Good stuff :)

I really enjoy watching how other painters achieve their results. It's very interesting to see these paintjobs as they are being created...

I agree. From "nothing special" this mini turnes into "a promising piece" :)
Keep heading towards "OMG that's awesome!"

Seems like a very popular colour choice for the dress. I know Marike and Bren have painted it a similar colour. Now if only I could paint nearly as well as them.
