I quite like it. What I would like to add is some bright edges of the carapace. They would make it look a bit sharper and thus harder. Just my ?0.02

But I like the colors a lot. I hardly believed it was yours...

I think model could benefit from more contrast - I know it's early wip butt hat's the first thing coming to my mind;
pale color of armour is very cool!

I like the JMD bust so far. Skin has a good start (and you said you coudn't do decent skintones)

I took the liberty to alter your pic a bit in Photoshop. I hope you don't mind. I did it so that you could see where you could place more highlights to improve the skin.

After the highlight you could work in some colors to the shades
