I`m curious about skin. You aren`t painting the whole skin at once? Just part by part?

for exemple to paint the quite finished part you see, it take me 3 hours so i prefer go part by part to focus on a part of the minis and once quite finish, i begin another one like face

it means, if you use a lot colors fo your skin write themon a paper to don't forget and have flesh parts differents of another

it this case i change the color:
i use elf flesh for base
elf flesh + bestial for 1st shadows
elf flesh + more bestial for second shadows
elf flesh + bestial + a green and a blue color for 3rd shadows

i rehighlight some intermediate tone using 1st shadows and adding codex grey inside to broke the linear color of the shadow

for highlight elf flesh + yellow + white
for 2nd elf flesh + more yellow + more white
for 3rd white

of course at each process i cross layers and minimize the application zone

Thanks a lot Stefan :) You have right, with such big mini is better to focus on each part.
P.S. I guess it`s matter of time when I will break myself to start using white undercoat ;)

alkhemy step by step

Post by illusionrip »

HO HO HO

jeremie (bragon) give me for test, one of his mini for the kraken game.

i try to do a step by step tutorial, on how to trying making happy bragon, and it won't be easy....

first of all, the bad work, i mean preparing the minis and his base.
i would like to have a simple base to point out on the mini.
in main case, i always integrate my minis to the base, to get an effect of unicity.
the ground was done with vallejo pumice paste, who is ideal to make earthy ground.

once finish, i was lazy and don't want to run my aero so do the base coat with citadel white spray.

i decide to do the armour on a grey color "a la nmm"
for this i use simple color for the base:
-chaos black
-skull white
-bleached bone: for greenish tones and to use red shade after, in fact the opposite of the green color, and by the way the yellow inside the bleached made more softer the transition beetween layers when added some white
-and ice blue for the general tone of the grey

i apply 3 very thin layer to get a good working base
always apply very thin layer

i begin to apply glaze in high colors, down colors; and inetrmediate colors
all in the same time to made my transitions as smooth as possible.
don't need to tell you that i use a GENITAL EFFECT  for the general light ambience

i apply a lyer of bleached bone on the cloak, because i will use after some "english uniform of vallejo, who is very transparent and i will give him by transparency the same tone as the bleached witch is in my armour

i begin to incorporate some red glaze in my armour, and others of a black blue

some uniform english had been put on the cloak and about 5 layers are here, i begin to glaze the deeper part in some red brown.
i begin to apply some flesh layer, made of elf flesh + ice blue, to give my guy a ill look and to harmonise my skin with my armour witch contain....
ICE BLUE of course

on this, just the border of the shield had been done in a bestial + chaos black melt.

i would to it dark color for 2 reasons:
it will contrast with the shield wood who will be brighter
and give more focus on this bad guy armour (yes a guy striking innocent people with a strange flower, should be bad :D )

ImageClick to see full-sized image

on the wood inside the shield i made i apply a coat of bleached bone, then shaded with 2 washes of a cold brown, undestand with blue inside and a drop of black
the face receive several washes of the base + a bestial brown
second layers with the base (elf flesh+ice blue) + catachan green
some layers of the base + red gore had been put on the cheeck....

it's a quite finish mini, missing sme details on the base
on the other side of the shield, i simulate the eternal fighting holes
and i try to made in trasparence the logo the games alkhemy...
you should really look to find it, because it is very hide by the differents glazes.

so, here is it...
paint this mini really pleased me...
at least it was sculpted by a guy "allan" who know what painters are looking for..
the brushes sliding alone the things, and realize it in 4 hours.

try them, they really worth it......

in fact, there is not too much details on it, and that's why it make it so refreshing to paint, like hasslefree
