Space Marine Librarian WIP

Post by Ana »

Hi all :)
Actually I am working on that mini:

Some mistakes I found, but maybe I didn't saw everything ...
And I have one question, because I want to paint damage and weathering and don't know when I should say stop. I was thinking abouth the legs, arms and helmet. Any suggestions?
I saw that I must add a glaze on the wepon, and a little shadow on the armour. I will do this today and finish the keys.
I am thinking about making the shadow on the tunic deeper, a making the colors on the face richer with a few glazes... should I do it?

Really good painting so far :) The skintones and expression on the face are great! Also the robe looks very nice, nice blending on the armour :) In my opinion the ammunition looks too dark and flat, also the silver NMM on the keys requires more highlights (but You said, that You are going to finish this ;))

The face is really good, cold and winter, for me is finished.
More shadows on the armour? Yes
Make a tunic/robe deeper? No ;)
Additional glazes on the weapon? Yes
Weathering on the boots is nice, but in my opinion is too sandy, I propose to use more brown and red colours to make more rusty effect, not sandy.

I'm waiting for more :)

Yeah, these are still WIPs.
I think the Crux Terminatus on his shoulderpad could cast a shadow downwards. And the other shoulderpad culd be shaded more into black.

To me the face looks finished. Can't wait to see the rest of it finished.

How did you achieve such a cool effect on armour? Is it weathering?
The face expression is great, so realistic. I'm waiting for more photos and any progress :D

red arrows show direct of the light. And parts of the mini in red circles shows places which should be highlighted IMO. Am I right? Please correct me.

It's going to be a great work! I'm your big fun ANA! Great face. I love it. What colours have you used to acheive that shame?

How have you made the oryginal blue-green colour of armour?

And how have you made the rust efect on shoes? Just brown glazes or something more?

thanks, Mahon showed me the same places, and thanks to you I am sure that this place needs more shadow :)
I painted legs a little lightner, because I think that it will be simpler to achieve weathered effect, but I will pay attention to good placement of that shadow.

How I achieved the colour of the armour:
First I painted transparent blue VMC for neutral parts and shadow.
Second I use magic blue VGC for neutral parts.
Third I use woodgrain VMC (transparent) on neutral and lighted parts - but I added this colour only on the places when I would want the weathered effect on the armour.
Fourth I add cobra leather VGC to the magic blue VGC, and this places you could see it like green :) And next I glaze cobra leather colour on the border of highlights.
Last shadows I achieve from charred brown VGC - glaze.
Rust I painted with colours: charred brown VGC, and cobra leather VGC and a little add pale greyblue VMC.
The same colour - pale greyblue VMC I painted on all the lighted armour.
