I've known people to find some good animal bits for conversion at dollar stores and toy stores. you can usually find bags of plastic animals for children for low prices. usually they are similar to the size you'd want for making hybrid 'nids. Look around. Not everything for your models has to come from a company that actually makes miniatures.
