Reaper news...
Reaper Prepainted Plastic Miniatures

Reaper Miniatures is proud to announce the release of its first series of prepainted plastic miniatures.

This new product line will be released under the brand name Legendary Encounters?.

Offered in an open, non-blind, non-random format, Legendary Encounters? prepainted plastic miniatures will be packaged using Reaper's standard blister card. Both single and multiple piece packs will be offered.

Unlike the several existing blind-sale prepainted plastic miniature lines currently available, Legendary Encounters? will not be produced on a limited edition basis and will be available at any time.

Drawing on Reaper's vast experience in miniatures and a catalog of 1000's of metal models to design Legendary Encounters, Legendary Encounters will quickly become the most popular prepainted plastic miniatures line on the market.

Reaper has always focused on the creation of evergreen product lines and Legendary Encounters? is the first product line of Reaper's new "Ready to Fight?"(RTF) series of games and gaming products.

Available this June Legendary Encounters? initial release will include: Undead and Orc warriors of various types, an Ogre, Troll and Minotaur. Like our Dark Heaven Legends miniature line, future releases into Legendary Encounters? will include every type of creature imaginable.

@Demi - such intelligent zombie as you surely understands, that money makes the world go round, and company (no matter if it is GW, Reaper or SMM) wants to gain profits. If Rackham, Reaper or Mongoose Publishing consider pre-paints to be money-makers, they will release them, no matter what I think about that.

I can see pros of pre-paints - mainly for rpg and table-top gamers. They want to have painted minis (not necessarily to high standard) and play games. Some of them don't like painting, some don't have time, some don't know how to do it.
It's just that - as Skrit said - it's not my cup of tea. I just hope, that prepainted minis do not push unpainted ones out of the market.

@Mahon - Ed Pugh (Reaper CEO) stated, that this new line will not influence lines already existing. Let's hope it's actually true.

Wel if the new line will be as well prepared as the Sci-Fi line of Rackham (in terms of minis of course), then it might be actually possible to repaint those minis.
braces himself for a pack of plastick Reaper minis - yay!

We'll see. It sounds like Reaper is going to try out a new universal rules set with them too (RTF, ready to fight). As long as the plastic is reasonably rigid, you shouldn't have any problems enjoying and repainting models if you want. Pre-painted can make your character look cooler for your RPG if you don't like to paint. Pre-painted grabs the eye of new customers. Reaper is just adding something new to their product list. If they keep supporting the original lines (like they have said they will), then I don't have any problems. We'll have to see what the pre-paint quality looks like, though.

I agree, AoM. As I've said earlier, if prepaints do not replace unpainted minis, I will have no objections :)
