Here are some WIP pictures of the model I am working on now. My goal is to have him finished by Saturday, so tonight and tomorrow the main thing on my schedule is paint, paint, paint.
I was just working on the red, and now that I see the pictures I think it should be highlighted more. Whenever I'm working on something I'm always afraid it will be too bright I guess I should push it higher than I think it should go while painting. I'm trying to use dull shades, so I've added gray to all the layers. I am pretty happy with the results. The blue only has a base coat. Once I am done the red I'll get to work on that. Now, on with the pictures.
Guessing from your description, you have the same problem a I do, the highlights are to dark. You can either ask someone in your area (maybe a fellow from your gaming club) after you think you are finished if it is enough, or you do it my style: when I, while painting, think, that there are enough highlights, I add at least two more layers. Then either lett it rest over night or take a longer break. When I come back to the painting table, I got some "distance" to the mini an can see the highlights much better an much more realistic.
Funny cause I usually make to many highlights and the mini starts to glow:).
Well in this case I think you should ad some more highlights but that is really hard to say as the mini is far from finished there is nothing to cmpare with. So post a wip soon and we can tell more!
I worked on the red some more, now I'm a lot happier with it. I also worked on the blue and the skin. I'll be going back to work on the skin, but I'm happy with the blue. Now it's mainly details left, so maybe I'll actually have him finished by tomorrow .
Thanks for the comments guys. You were right about leaving it over night, Gottkaiser. It helps clear the head after too much time hunched over at a desk .
Now that more work has been done I hope you can get a better idea of where it's going. I'll post again when I have finished him
I am always a fan of the sharp and eye-cathing bright highlights, but thats just me. This is going the right way, I would go for bright( ) metallics! And hope to see it finished.
Here are the finished photos. I actually had him done Saturday morning (right on schedule ) but I just didn't get around to posting until now. For 2 nights of work I am happy with how he turned out.
I have taken new pictures outside and edited my post before, so now you can look back and see them. This is the first time in a long while that the weather has agreed with me
I agree, mahon. I think that's the biggest problem I have when painting. I always decide to stop earlier than later, and often that is too early. You can see in the first pictures where I was originally going to stop, but then I looked back on him and realized it could be much better. I suppose maybe next time I'll take my time and have more breaks. That way I'll see the model with fresh eyes.

What you mean with the light, cause you could use a lamp or two for that!
This pic is much better, and I think you did a good job, the purplelish red is the best I think, and as you said you could do some more highlighting here and there, but you will do fine next time, good luck!
