Hi!
Me again. I have finally painted my last Bretonnian (for the time being), and I actually need, and want to come up with some nice bases for my future minis. I have been doing "golfcorts with pebbles" for so long I wouldnt mind some inspiration (!!!).
Are there any does and don'ts for bases? Are there some musts that I should go get? What's best for sculpting bases? And so on, you get the genaral idea:)
And then a genaral question: Does noone here paint metal with metal paint??
Brainstorm for bases.

RE: Brainstorm for bases.
I use metallics - I con't like painting nmm because it looks more than crappy in my execution
and for the bases - try cork - lots of possibilities for the start

one major don't: don't paint the edges green
For the rest you can do anything you like. Industrial, forest, rocks, plains, desert.. whatever
Stuff that's good for making some nice bases: cork, bark or woodchips. Sand with different sized pebbles. (don't buy it, nature is you friend) milliput (normal or terracotta), water effects, snow effects. you can search the garden or a park for vegetation.
for sculpting on bases use milliput. It's cheaper than greenstuff, and rougher too.

clicky
EDIT: I paint mostly with metallics, but I like NMM too

For bases I use some natural materials from the garden. Bits of slate and bark etc, a dremmel comes in very handy for pinning minis to slate tho'.
I only us metallics. I like looking at NMM but don't really like it. Why try to come up with a fake metallic look when you have a metallic paint? For canvas painters a whole different thing, but pick up a NMM and turn it in the wrong direction and the light strikes in a different place to the highlights and it looks funny. The people who pull off a NMM (esp gold) are very talented - just not my cup o' tea.

Currently painting 15mm's with an extremely large brush - one step away from dipping them in the pot.
