First try at NMM... could use some more advice

For the moment I use GW colours since my Vallejo colours are at my mom's house.

Bestial brown,
Bestial brown +snakebite leather,up to pure snakebite
A bit of bubonic brown mixed with the snakebite
Mix + golden yellow up to pure golden yellow
Mix + white.

Yesterday I tried something different. I used the same colours, much thinner paints than usuall and less steps. So from Bestail brown -> snakebite in 2 steps using a lot of very thin layers and so on.
The colour looks good IMO, just the metal shine isn't there

I'll take some pic in the afternoon.

try a basecoat of 50/50 golden yellow and brown, and then shade if necessary, because like mahon said, it's useless to start out with a brown basecoat if you don't see it

so with that initial basecoat, shade where necessary by adding more (dark)brown
after that, start highlighting with golden yellow first, and then keep adding white to the gold mix, until you finish with pure white on the highlights

I usually start with snakebite leather, wash it with flesh wash (or even add a bit of smoke), reapply S.L. to most of the surface and then go forbronzed flesh, yellow, bleached bone, white

but now i have some other ideas - to start with bestial brown, to stat with dark flesh, etc.

the bestial brown, doesn't show on the pic I know. But IRL you can see it on the darkest edge (on the dark side of the helmet) But I'll try to start lighter then.

why don't you do shading?

Normally I do use the shading technique. I use it on armour and robes and such. I thought that it was easier to bild up when first trying the NMM. Since those surfaces are usually quite small. I'm still learning every time I paint. I'm still experimenting.

I'm getting fed up with this mini. Maybe I should take one that I like more to practise on.

About the nmm, it's still too yellow isn't it?? I think it doesn't look good

Also the primer on this one is very bad (like Corvus mentioned before) as you probably can see on the armour it's grainy and not smooth...
