Here are a few pics of Archaon that I painted a few years ago. I'm getting back into painting figs again as I have the time to do so again. This one took me a while to get it where I wanted, and the steed still isn't exactly what I was looking for but close. After I got done painting it the stupid GW spray varnish didn't dry properly and it isn't very smooth. Please let me know what you guys think, and how I could improve.

The photos are not the best but it looks like a decent table top standard. The horse looks pretty good. The black armour suffers a bit more. I get that he is greatly magnified though, so it probably looks great on the table! I like his horns though!

Thanks for the feedback. These are the first pics I have posted of any minatures, and I know that part needs some work.

looks like I'm not the only one who had hard time with gw so-called matt varnish... :?
as it was mentioned the mini presents good painting for bat tle conditions;
to improve it I'd try painting highlightnings in a more smooth way;
I also think that some brown ink or glaze on golden elements would look nice :wink:

nice job! i think some blacklining on the hornes near the helmet would look good, also a lighter color for the horse's leather straps and some highlights on the furs would improve definition :)

Correct me if I am wrong. I guess you undercoated in black and some areas you drybush the color on top of the undercoat, eg, the rope? red? If you want to achieve a smoother effect, try use a bit less drybushing but a few more layers of thin paint, that wil help, I guess. for the black armour, teh highlighted edge, I suggest you can go to some color transition from a darker tone to the ligter tone, instead of draw a thin line for highlighting. Well, so glad to see your lovely mini and hope you enjoy the forum, and post some more works when u finish. :D

Also a wash on the golden helmet would help. (and on other golden parts too) A few thin washes of Chestnut would do...

The browns are all very similar. Maybe add more layers on them and do that in slight variations. This way they'll seperate more and it's easier to see the different parts. (hope this makes sense as I had trouble formulating what I meant!)

the horse looks very nice, I like the brownish red colour of the skin. the archaon model would benefit from some extra contrast on the gold and the armour. Judging this model I think the colours aren't chosen well. You went with the classic archaon colour scheme, but brownish red horse + red cloak + brown fur + red for eyes and wounds, it's too much of the same. you could solve this by giving the golden areas some highlights with chainmail or boltgun metal, something in that line, and by making the armour abit brighter. I hope this help you abit.
