Orkz WIP

Post by Hekaton »

The first orc from regiment; painted it as a test for the rest of the squad. I think it still needs some work... Well, I don't have any idea for freehands and detail work yet :(

Well, freehands can always come later, especially since it's a test :)
All in all, it's a good start, I would have gone a little more into depths in the shadows, but otherwiste, it's ok :)

As Hellspawn said - good start and freehands can always be added at a later stage. :) Shading on the skin looks ok but some more shading/blacklining on his cloth/armor especially the recesses would help distinguish the parts from each other.

It's a good start aye. I'd just make the metals a bit less rusty, to make them stand out a bit from the leather/pants.

I've done the adjustments on back, lighted little bag, pants lighted, and made sword less rusty. Hope you 'll like it ;D

Shoes are repainted as well:

shading: red gore / dark flesh (to make cold shades)

highlighting: blood red progression (mixed with dark flesh, then blazing orange, then sunburst yellow)

And finally - glazed with snakebite leather (on lighted areas). Still I think pants need reworking, because painting bootstraps on red seems to be not enough ;D

More orkz one the way ;D

Also pics were made in different lighting conditions - on natural lighting.

Red seems to be better definitely. I would have highlighted the butt a little more, but that's just me :)

I think it is good, especially if you have to paint 25 or 100 of them. I know you already repainted the boots, but perhaps black boots would differentiate them from the pants more.

I would add some brighter highlights at focal points.

I'm pretty sure I replied here already, but I can't see my post...
oh well, let's do it again.
how many orks are there in this unit?
how many units are there in your army?
how much free time do you have?

I'd try simple techniques and more striking colours, unless you do nothing but paint :) also, leather (boots, pants, sacks...) and rusty metal are too similar. use different colours to make your minis more striking :)

I agree with Nameless, the colors are too similar.

There's no problem in having the same color on various parts of the minis, but on your model there are too many similar colors in one place.

For example you can use the same brown on the boots and the belt+pouch if you paint the pants in a different color (black for example).
