GW has been dumbing down things for quite some time now... the OTT is just not mature anymore. Going back to the really old days some of the sculpts were also OTT but they had charisma.

If I was to describe in small bullet points the GW aestetial phases it would be like

- RT Crazy overthetop concepts with bags of charisma
- Plastics first waves killed the charisma and introduced skullz stupidity or 5 scale rules on all bugs etc
- Plastics second wave all 3d big things no charisma no soul and childish details
- Today finecrap suffers the same problems as the plastics concept wise, bland no soul totally clueless

If your not 12 you will want something with more charisma for your minis and thas why so many vets like the RT times.

As much as I liked some of the old GW artists that still work at GW I believe its time to sack them all along with all the concept artists and retarded admin who influence creativity and go back to the roots be ause from concepts point of view they are on a dead end for years now.

I fully disagree. It seems to me, that you judge GW releases only on ths Empire. I agree it one is very weak, but in my personal opinion Vampire Counts were great, Ogres were also super and not to mention Dar Eldars. So from recent releases 3 were really good, 2 were not special (Tomb Kings & Necrons) and this one plus the watch tower are bad. Another thing is the idea to bring big monsters to WFB (not only dragons live in The Old World), which was perfect desition to make the game more interesting. Some time ago PP did the same thing.
Does it make GW gret? no. Does it make it bad? For sure no, there are much worse companies. That release more crap.

Those were 2 cents. No ham, everyone has it's own opinion :)

I also hate the new empire stuff it looks like in my opinion that GW are trying so hard to compete with Privateer press and their release of battle engines and soon colossals. At least PP have done a good job and kept to their vision for the game by keeping things consistent. This just seems too rushed, however i agree in part with sea.man, i liked the vampire counts ghost thingy it looked quite cool and i like the idea of the giant goblin squig but the others are very mediocre or rubbish tbh. It's sad to see GW panic-ing almost at least that's my view.

I've still not tried any finecast stuff, but i actually liked GW's plastics they made painting easier, the models were easier to convert for newbies like me. So as a starting point they were actually really well done. Yes i agree in some respect with Nav about being a little unimaginative and OTT, but it did make life easier, i just avoided the crap releases they had tho and I'm moving rapidly away from GW as i want to play more warmahordes and other games. I even tried Malifaux the other day as i have been finding 40k and Fantasy battle to be very lacking in any tactics and more of a kids game compared with other games. I miss the RT days too.

Anyway back onto one of the other topics.

I'm intrigued about the new paints range and i'm in two minds atm whether to get them or not. It is quite a lot of money but i think as my painting time has been drastically reduced i feel the set might help me progress quicker anyway. ^^ cos obviously speed was always an issue for me.

agreed here. not sure if it's "very" weak, but too cartoonish for my vision of WFB
sea.man wrote:Vampire Counts were great
OK, right!
sea.man wrote:Ogres were also super
not so enthusiastic here, but there were quute a few great models for sure
sea.man wrote:not to mention Dar Eldars.
good again
sea.man wrote:2 were not special (Tomb Kings & Necrons)
pretty unimaginative and some missed ideas
sea.man wrote:this one plus the watch tower are bad
oh, thanks for mentioning the YMCA skeleton :D
sea.man wrote:Another thing is the idea to bring big monsters to WFB (not only dragons live in The Old World)
recall the days of WFB 3rd ed. - these monsters have still been there
so were they in 4th and 5th editionsi
I think they severely reduced them in the 6th incarnation of WFB
it's good they changed their minds... again... ;)

Actually that's one of the things which bother me the most.
I am not against changes in the universe or development of the game. I am not against adding new units to create new options. I just mind those changes which are not consistent with the previous picture of the Warhammer world. Units removed from army books, atmosphere changing, imagery changing... Not too fond of it.

I think nobody can disagree they're the best plastics in fantasy/scifi gaming (I only know of comparable historical counterparts). And they became at least a match for metal GW models. Plus all the convenience of working with plastic models....

yet another voice expressing similar opinion.

No surprise. Those days when gaming was all about fun. Or at least more about fun than about winnnig...

It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
"So sit back, give the game a quick read and prepare for hours of fun with this simple yet challenging game ... you remember fun, don’t you?"

Thanks Slawol some nice info there :D and it's good to know they are releasing them as smaller sets too, that helps soothe my mind a bit about whether to get the full set or not.
