here is my latest project. I tried some very basic converting / sculpting but it's very poor quality. the painting is better imho, but still I am not pleased with all parts of the model.
of course the horse will get a rider, and the banner pole on its back will get a torn up flag waving behind it, also to create the illusion of movement.
Tell me what you think, and PLEASe don't be afraid to nit pick, I want every detail on this model to be my best work so far, so I can use all the criticism you have. I don't care if you sound rude, any help is much more appreciated than no comment at all.
Its looking very nice so far. The armour is lovely and the chainmail looks pretty nice on its neck.
Did you paint the tail and the sadle yet cause it doesn't look like it.
btw, I wouldn't give the flag too much movement as the horse looks like a trotting pose rather than a charging one. Of course he could be trotting towards a strong gust of wind too!
Rust on the barding is very good. I like it. Skintone needs in my opinion some green shading or red. Skin of the horse dosn't fit to look of the barding. It is to clean. That will be nurglish hero on the horse ?
You've seemed to nailed the painting of scratches pretty good now! The chainmail looks good too, but the overall feeling at this moment is still too clean for me... But it's still a wip in an early(?) stage so I guess that'll change soon.
So far I only would like to see more colour variation the horses body showing indications of decay...
I was debating with myself if I should add more dirt to the chainmail, but I will wait with that untill everything is done.
the horse skin is the least favourite part for me atm, but I will propably add some more subtle shading and highlighting in the next phase of painting.
Ok, the biggest thing for me is that this horse still looks much too clean and too much like the horse it originally was supposed to be. Yes, he has a bad skintone and a few holes in him... Ok. But under the holes I don't see muscle or bone. It just looks like artificial holes. And the tail must go. That tail is clean, neat, well groomed... I can't imagine the horse of a herald of decay having this tail. His hooves aren't damaged looking, etc. He just looks too healthy and unchanged overall to be convincing to me.

Cause it doesn't remind me of anything"
@ ladyeyes : good tips ! that's the stuff I'm looking for.
I will certainly add damage to the hooves ( they aren't painted yet ) and on the sores on his skin. I have been thinking about the tail as well, and I might just cut it off and make it a tentacle. Let's see how the sculpting turns out shall we?
new step : I made the horse a little filthier, and placed the rider on top to give you an idea what it is I realise it's hard to make out his features because he's not undercoated, but you can call it a teaser shot
I like the armour but I still do not think the horse looks quite 'nurglish'. I think it still looks a bit clean, the grey flesh looks rather healthy still dispite at the holes here and there. I would have made it more green looking, dieased in looks. Also the tail still looks well groomed and fresh.
