the right approach!

only when you allow yourself to be criticized you are going to make progress and improve. and everybody can improve. most people around us do, so when we stop - we effectively move back...

and BTW:
guys, we have to comment in such a way that we would do if the author was present here. miniature painters and sculptors DO lurk around here sometimes, and so they MAY read about their works.

does it mean we have to praise their works only? no. I think it's best to assume they CAN READ IT.

did I find fullheadofhair's comment offensive? no, he simply said that in his opinion something was not good. now Atacam didn't take offense and it's great. now if the comment could become more detailed and constructive, it would be of even more help for him.

And yeah, I also agree with fullheadofhair - I don't think it's the best possible promo shot of the mini. I think both photography and painting didn't do justice to the sculpt (and maybe the sculpt didn't do justice to the concept art, too?)

Having seen many paintjobs by Atacam, I think this one particular model didn't quite suit his taste, or he didn't enjoy working on this (sorry guys, it often shows), or maybe it's just a bad model/photo. And hey, we all have worse days and you can't make every single paintjob a perfect one.

somebody butchered the OSl with this background

Critics is always great!

In my opinion, last promo paintjob is weak. I found greens on Allan Carrasco site:

You are quite right mahon. I do value the critique as I, like most others, want to improve.
The comment above this, stating the PJ is weak, doesn't really help me, as I dont know why przemo thinks why. Maybe its my bad photography again, as the mini does look better in RL, maybe it's something I have overlooked?

I think one issue is the expanse of red. I have to stick to the concept as much as possible. I think in drawn pictures you can probably get away with stuff that doesn't transfer to minis as well, yes/no?

Please, let me know, here or by PM, any advice can only be a good thing.

I don't think that paint job is weak, though, the red lacks contrast imo, it's too flat, not popping and the pics with the concept in the background in the same color just kills everything, it's not neutral enough, colors on the mini are just eaten by it. You sould definitely look for something more neutral as a background I think.

Besides that, I really like what you achieve on the bag he has on his left side, the ropes on his belly are really realistic imo so are the wood part on his arms and his belly (well under his belly)

Hope this feedback is "good" enough, I tried to be constructive in my criticism, but don't get me wrong, eventhough I said there could be room for improvement, I would just love to be able achieve at least the same result cause atm, I'm just not skilled enough :D

Thank you very much. I wouldn't worry about if you have or dont have more ability than someone else, you have an eye for this and you know what you like. The feedback is gratefully received. I thought as much it was the red. As I said it does look better in RL, maybe I should go darker even more in the shadows?
