It's good to find an interesting site devoted to painting miniatures.
I've been painting figures since the early eighties (yes, I'm really, really old), starting with gaming figures - but I was always more interested in painting figures than playing games. I used to paint up sets of them and sell them through the gaming shops; there were many independent ones in London in those days. Never made much money but I enjoyed it.
Moved on to larger scale figures eventually because they were better sculpted (less stubby than the early gaming figures) and ended up becoming a fanatical garage kit collector.
Then I gave it all up, sold half my collection, and stopped painting for about ten years. I've only got back into it again recently and one thing I've noticed is that small scale figures (particularly the French ones) are no longer stubby - some are really beautiful
