Little jimbo's Blood knight (Gamezone)

Post by Little Jimbo »

So here ill hope to get some tips on what to be better on my biggest project to date. Five "Blood Knights" from Gamezone.
when i first got the minis i was thinking wow a lot of fine details and on metal minis. then i started prepping the minis. not that many mold lines. but when i but them together i was chocked by 5-7 mm gaps both on the mounts and the knight's. so i got my first piece of experience with green stuff. then the minis got primed white and i started painting.

and all the fine details turned in damn all the small cavities and half cast details. well in the end it turns out they are a pain to paint and there is a lot of cavities where it is hard to get the paint.

But so far made most of the work on two of the mounts and one of the knights. i hope you will come with tips for improving them.

Regards
Daniel

Ps. I hate painting bases so ill finish them last.

Like Vlad, miniatures are definitely too glossy.

For me, it's really hard to manage to distinguish details on the mini. They're all drawned into a weird melting of colors.

Colors are also too close together to give the possibility to see what part belongs to the rider and what part belongs to the horse when it's mounted by the rider.

Tail of the hors needs to be worked, like on the varghulf, it's too flat.

Armor is not highlighted enough nor shadowed enough.

The only nice thing I like on the mini is the way you treated the metal and the "vert de gris" (dunno how to call that in english but it's the rust on the brass which is usually blueish green) on the brass.

What you could do to improve the minis? First you should perhaps look for another color than either the red or the purple, they're too close together. Color schemes that have colors really close together are really hard to master, thus it's easier to go for something different sometimes. And if you really want to keep those colors, you should try to have some other tones of colors, to have perhaps a purple that isn't that deep or a red that is perhaps a little more orange cause right now, nothing is popping from the mini which makes it very difficult to "read".

These models are very difficult ones, they're really not easy to paint while having a nice color scheme.

Sorry if it's not the comments you were looking for :(

It was a great Reply.
well the reason the armor look flat is that it is only base color so far for the most part. only the mount of the model with the rider have had some work on the armor. and that mostly the first highlight.

The tails of the horse that one of the things i don't really know how to do i hate painting black as it is so hard to highlight so for they are only dry brushed with a gray mid color.

Now the colors i cant change the purple as it is the main color of the army. in regard to the red of the the armor you right that to highlight with a more orange color will be a good idea.

and on to the gloss of the minis do anyone have any ideas of what has happens i use Vallejo paints only and finish of with a matt vanish. can it be the whit base-coat that shines through
