hello guys!
did any of you try to make a project with CAD stuff, and 3d print it?
my sculpting skills are worse than my painting skills, if it can get any worse, but im kinda familiar with strange IT things.
im wondering is it possible to make a nice 28mm mini and print it, and how much it would cost.. and ofc how fast it could be (sculpting). maybe it would be a nice way to make prototypes?
as i remember printing a block like 25mm x 25mm x 25mm cost arround 1$.
regards

Re: CAD sculpting, 3d printing?
It's certainly possible!
Although I'm no expert in the field there are some stories about it on the web, for example what Mad Robot Miniatures is doing: http://madrobotminiatures.blogspot.com/ ... d-bad.html

I know nothing about, but Przemas from MaxMini does
he's checking the forum rarely, so give him some time to find this thread.

Re: CAD sculpting, 3d printing?
thanks Gerrie! interesting (and maybe useful) fact.
Re: CAD sculpting, 3d printing?
For sure quality of the modern printers passed the barrier that allows making detailed 28mm miniatures on a computer. In fact if you check some of the MaxMini recent and upcoming releases (for example jetbike kit, or steel crow tribe helmets) you'll notice they have been made using this method.
You should only make sure you use a good printer and someone that has some experience with printing small stuff. When I've been looking for a way to print our designs it has taken me a while before I have found a good company. One of those that failed for sure had a printer that's capapbel of doing the task, but still they couldn't provide us with good results simply because usually they worked with much bigger parts.

Dear Group,
I am working for Leonar3Do International. My aim is to establish an online, 3D sculpting app for easy 3D printing and for fun. The site allows users to co-create each others designs. I would be more than happy if you would visit the site and give feedback about it.www.leopoly.com. You can create 3D objects, explore and shape on thousands of them and even print them in 3D by Sculpteo. Here is one great model for example: http://leopoly.com/view/?id=5972&object=invasion
In addition, I am proud to say, that Leopoly also works in 3D (anaglyph/polarized mode)! What is more, you can even paint objects online, which is also a worlds first.
We are also lending out over a 1000 USD at a contest - http://www.leopoly.com/vote
