Hello all, I am new to the 40k world and so far I have painted 26 marines, and 1 land speeder, but for some reason the heads keep looking pasty and frankly are ugly as hell?
My color scheme is skull white and goblin green, with a gun metal primer. . .
The green goblin bodies look sort of passable, but my heads look like they were dipped in bird crap? How can I avoid this in the future, am I using to much paint, to little, should I thin it out?
Current resources: Basic GW Starting Paint Kit?
Something I have figured out: I will never ever try and paint a fully constructed marines again, I will cut out each piece and paint them individually first. . .
Need help on painting technique? Please Help!!!

Well, if you want an easy way to paint your helmets an nice and crisp white, first thing you should do is undercoat the helmets white. You can assemble the marine as usual but leave the helmet off. This way you can give the marine a black undercoat while the head becomes white. Also, this makes for easy acces to the entire head.
After priming white, give the helmet a wash of 1:2 Fortress grey:water (Spacewolves grey could also be used instead of Fortress) this will run into the recesses to make a shading, but it will not cover the rest too well. After the wash has dried you can paint the helmet with pure white. To make sure you get an even coat, thin your paint with a little water and aply 2 thin layers.
I hope this helps you!

I would second John's advice.
On assembly, I would leave the head, shoulder pads, bolter, and backpack off, but the rest of the body should be able to be painted easily enough with that stuff off.
Also, poke around on the internet for tutorials. While folks are always ready to answer a question on here, there is a wealth of knowledge out there. Brushthralls is a site more centered around Warmachine than 40K, but has tons of great information.
Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

I'd also try Bleached Bone, or maybe 1:1 mix of Bleached bone and Snakebite Leather instead of grey for shading. This gives a warmer shade of white.
