The Last Stand of the Crimson Fists

Post by volomir »

Hello CoC! Glad to be posting finally some stuff here :D

I had to post photos of this one since last summer, but anyway, better later than never! Today I show you my first diorama, based on the 90s classic illustration by David Gallagher. Made entirely out of plastic Space Marine pieces, heavily transformed and studied to achieve the most resemblance possible to the original concept art, while maintaining an interesting composition in 360 degrees. Took more than 400 hours of work and 8 months hobby dedicated exclusively to it.

The scene won silver on one of the most difficult Diorama categories I've ever seen, in the Spanish GD 2010.

Hope you guys like it! Comments more than welcome as always.

That just looks so cool :) although i think adding some weathering of dust on their armour would give it a much better realism twist. I keep looking at all the different models, so much going on ! :clap:

Pink Guns - thats intresting - ye i know on the art they are almoust pink :)

eny way it is incerdible work you mad ther with alot of details - but 1 thing is disturbinm me it is clinicly steryle - the dirt dont look like dirt as for "last stand " it looks to clean rather like "firsd parade"

This looks great. :clap::clap:

I like the composition. Your eye automatically draws to the leader first and then you get to see all these nice details. Very cool. Everywhere you look there is something going on.
The colours are great, especially the colour of the fists and guns. For the armour I would have chosen a blue that would be slightly darker I think.

I do have to agree with the others that the whole scene is a bit too clean for a last stand. Some dirt pigments would change this easily ;)

I so much love the dynamics of the scene. The composition and the poses of the soldiers are simply great.
However, they do not look like "the last stand" - even the dead ones have no bullet holes, no damaged armours etc. The leader has his face clean and looks like he has just woken up. Some dirt, scars, and blood would be more than welcome.

Despite this, great job!
