Bumped into this video today, made by GirlPainting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04RMOchGAS8
It might look like a great video to some but if you have seen this video by MassiveVoodoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRt_Pp_n_II
(which consists of 4 parts) you will know it's only a poor copy. Of course you can document your own attempt at something done in a tutorial, but this video is a blatant copy, and the original MassiveVoodoo video isn't credited.
This video once again confirms what I already thought: some people will do anything to get more subscribers. This might be something to expect from somebody with only a handful of subscribers, but that's not true. GirlPainting almost has 3400 subscribers, and her videos have been watched more than half a million times! She's also the admin of the Wargamer Community group on YouTube.
Another example: past summer a competition was announced, organized by a guy called Natakue (with 3500 subscribers!) with help from Cipher Studios. The goal: paint the best Anima Tactics figure. There would be prizes for the first, second and third in the form of gift vouchers to spend in the Cipher store. So I decided to take part in the contest. A few weeks ago the winners were announced: the video only mentioned the winner (well deserved by the way, I won't argue that). So I PM'd the guy and asked what happened to the other entries. The reply was: "well there weren't that many entries, and I don't have the money to pay the prizes for the second and third entry...".
A good YouTube channel will gather subscribers automatically. There's no need for begging, spamming (also happened once) or foul play. Don't put your time into getting into the community, just go for the quality and the rest will follow.
