So I think I ruined this

Ok hello folks

I'm not really an experienced painter, by a long way hehe.

A friend gave me some great advice and I'm sure this method works since I've seen his work and it's great.

Basically I was going to use very thin paint to build up layers of colour, unfortunately after applying a few layers it soon became apparent that I had missed something or just got it totally wrong.

The coverage went on evenly (as far as i could see) but as it built up and dried I ended up with a very uneven colour as you may be able to see in this image:

What I'm wondering is, am I being a cretin and have gotten my paint totally wrong in terms of consistency and thickness? or is there something else I'm missing.

Any tips would be awesome.

Give us a overall picture of the mini so we can try and help you, if you were looking for battle damage its looking cool.

It looks a little streaky, which means the paint isn't mixing well with the water and separating slightly. Adding a bit more paint which has been mixed thoroughly might help with this.

I think you might have used too much water, so that there is not enough pigment to cover the entire surface.

Make sure that your paint has a milky consistency, if you go below that you are basically washing and not painting.

Another thing which might have happened is that you are painting in very dry conditions and with very little paint on your brush. You'll be painting over partially dried paint then, resulting in an uneven coverage.

@LN - so you didn't follow the thread to respond to Panda's request? it would make helping you much easier... My take is that your paint was too thin. yes, it can be too thin if you apply too much of it. working with very thin paint is pretty difficult as you need to apply it in very small amounts. otherwise it will run into recesses and stay wet way too long.
