Re: From newbie to...?
Much better on the image (his legs are now in focus as well as the gun) and I like the muted military colour scheme but I'm not sure what's painted and what's reflection, if it's all painted then great work
Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again

Nah, it's a bit of reflection on the shoulderpad and the helmet, just a tiny bit on the front of the gun, but otherwise it's all painted.Cyberpaddy66 wrote:Much better on the image (his legs are now in focus as well as the gun) and I like the muted military colour scheme but I'm not sure what's painted and what's reflection, if it's all painted then great work
Re: From newbie to...?
looking much neater now, but i think for me it lacks some colour. For example the green armour is very dark and i would be tempted to add some more base colour and highlights onto those areas to make the model seem brighter. However, it depends very much on what sort of style/atmosphere you're aiming for here. Good job on neatening the model tho

Oh, this is another model. And I'm mostly looking for that dark, dirty, warthorn look that the 40k universe have in my head. But yes, it got a bit to dark, might be the base colour (catachan green with a tad of bleached bone) or that the wash contained to much leviathan purple. I'll continue messing around with the colours I have and see if I can find the not too dark look.arctica wrote:looking much neater now, but i think for me it lacks some colour. well its up to you what you're going for
im just telling you my own preference, if you look at my stuff i like bright cartoony colours so i might not be the best to take advice from too much

If you are going for a battle-worn look but want to keep the colours dark enough, try some of these things perhaps:
- weather the armour with little 'chips' or lines of metallic paint on the edges. Very easy and efficient to give a model some battle experience
- use a little brown ink to colour the metallic parts of the gun, it'll add colour and depth to the model.
- try colouring your base with beige tones instead of grey ones, it adds colour to the total model in an instant.
There's some very nice progress between the two miniatures you have posted, keep us posted on the progress of your army!
