Arcane Challenge III | Painting Competition

We're pleased to announce the third of our irregular painting competitions. The first two Challenges have produced some truly luscious work, and hopefully the excellent standards can be maintained this time around.
The closing date for this Challenge is the suitably spectral date of Sunday 31st October, giving you over two months to produce something that little bit special. Judging will take place over the week following this date, with the winners announced - with a bang - on the 5th November.

The Prizes:

1st Prize:
Option a): £150.00 worth of vouchers to spend on the Arcane Miniatures website.
Option b): 1 copy of *every* item listed for release in November on this website (contents TBC).

2nd Prize: £50.00 worth of vouchers to spend on the Arcane Miniatures website plus a year's subscription to Figure International magazine (4 issues)

3rd Prize: £25.00 worth of vouchers to spend on the Arcane Miniatures website plus a copy of Andrea Press' 'How To Paint Fantasy Figures'

The Rules:

1: The competition is for a single figure, fully painted with a finished base. How scenic the base is is up to you, but it's the miniature itself being judged so stay focused! No 'weight' will be given to the size of the chosen miniature - human sized, monster sized, gigantic sized... they're all the same as far as this is concerned.

2: The submitted entry MUST be a figure drawn from a range that is available for sale from this site.

3: The submitted entry MUST be a NEW paintjob that HAS NOT been seen online before and HAS NOT previously been entered into any other competition.

4: Entries should be submitted via email to: arcanechallenge@arcaneminiatures.co.uk. Images should be supplied as RGB .jpg files UNDER 500k in size and MUST show both FRONT and BACK views of your miniature. You can use montage / detail shots in your submitted image, but bear in mind that sometimes less is more.

5: An entrant can submit multiple figures for inclusion in the competition, but no individual figure may be entered more than once.

6: This should go without saying, but the entry MUST be the work of the submitter - no 'borrowing' allowed.

7: Your finished image must be received no later than 11.59pm on the 31st October 2010. Please note that your entry is considered FINAL once submitted - no 'revised' images will be accepted, so make sure your photography counts.

8: NO PHOTOSHOP ANTICS.! You may use editing software to crop your pictures, make montages and to address contrast / brightness and that's fine but - no embellishing.

9: Conversions are fine - but again, as with the earlier comment about scenic bases, it's the quality of the painting that counts, not the sculpting.

Please note that by submiting images of your painted miniatures you are giving your consent for these images to be republished both on and offline for promotional purposes only.

The Judging:

Once the competition end date has passed, the judging process will begin. All submitted entries will be made available on a set of gallery pages through this website, and individual entries will also be available on our Flickr page. There is no overall 'marking' system in place but you will want to consider your colour combinations, suitability of your paintjob to its subject, tidiness of finishing etc when producing your entry as all will be considered when judging takes place.

The decision of the judges is final and the results will be posted on this website on the 5th November 2010. Winners will be contacted on that day via email.
