Horn's completed works

Post by Whitehorn »

I find it very hard to actually finish a model. Even those I consider finished I see flaws in and ponder redoing or fixing up. However, some models I have got to a final stage and entered (sometimes won!) painting competitions with.

Apologies if the images are a bit dark, I'm working on improving that with a new camera and setup.

I agree with Maru, some clearer photos of the minis would be easier to comment on, of what we can see i really like the ogryn with the scaffolding and concrete block weapon, it's just done so well. They look like a nice group, are they for anything in particular? like necromunda?

My problem has been no tripod and poor lighting mostly. I take these at home with whatever has been convenient, but I just bought a small lighting studio kit (light box with 2/3 lamps) to try out for better images. I'll take some without compressing. I can't get any new of the Elf as that was a gift for someone. Until then, most my pics have delicious glare/shine/colour distortion from lights. I will try to fix this!

my take would be that you need to outline the edges a bit stronger. the sculpt of the armor is pretty sharp and edged, so the painting should be sharper too.
and nothing makes your paintjobs clearer and more 'legible' than well good definition of details of the sculpt with painting.

My personal camera's a Hitachi HDC-1095E, cheap! (spec here)

I have occasional access to a couple of better cameras, but nothing I can rely on.

I have a 50x50 photo tent, not sure on the daylight lamps yet.

congrats you got camera for wich i dont have manual - thats somthing
but judging from last photo - somthing wrong with light - as you got light tent shadow should be dispersed not a direct 1 as you get 1 - this direct light cause a glares on minis

(eny posibilitys to post photo with EXiF data ?? )

atthis point
wrong thing :
direct light -
overexposed photo
(thous things are conected)

Good
WB is corect
