Hi guys, I'm back.
I promised myself a short break after finishing the Deathwing, but this break turned into a 2 month hiatus I have been very busy with some other things. First of all I've bought a new house, I'll have the keys in Juni probably and we plan to move in August. Currently there's a bedroom on the ground floor, but there are 3 more bedrooms on the first floor so I can use this as a room for my painting stuff
Another thing is that my kids have been constantly ill. Ever since my oldest daughter started to go to kindergarten after christmas, one disease after another has been introduces in my family.
Because of this it was very difficult to find the time for painting and also to get motivated to really get painting.
But now I'm back. I realized there are busier times ahead as soon as I get the keys to my new house, so this is the time to start (and hopefully finish) some projects. I'm also in an inspired and creative mood at the moment
I've dug up the Mantic undead sprues I received from them a while ago. At first I wanted to paint only one skeleton, but then I was looking for something to decorate the base. So I ended up including the skeleton dog on the base, and also some bits from one of the Elf sprues I had lying around: a dead elf, a broken sword and a shield.
I decided to mount everything up on a small plastic cup which I can use as a big base. So this thing is turning more into a mini diorama or vignette than a single mini. Here's a picture of how I will position the figures on the base:

For now I can say that the scene looks pretty promising. Tells a story, and that's what dioramas are about to me

The base is done. Used some plaster to create the tiles, then added some sand.
The dead elf and the sword are glued to the base, the two other figures will be painted seperately.

I'm still not used to the new brand of primer I'm using (Army Painter). The cans spray very strongly, so the skeleton which I primed first got too much primer on it. Especially the head and frontal areas such as the shield were affected. The base, dog and dead elf were primed afterwards, and I had no troubles with them. Oh well... I decided to paint these up real quick anyway: for some reason I simply can't paint plastics up to a high level, and I also want to finish this project ASAP, since there are some miniatures in the mail which I expect to arrive very soon. So when I get them while this little project isn't finished, I guess this diorama is doomed to be placed in my "forgotten WIP drawer"
So here are some pictures, i'm not painting this up in any high quality whatsoever, just having some fun painting it up quickly.

The picture is a bit too light... the metal areas will be painted with a lot of rust effects, so this will change the look of the figure I think. I might consider adding some dark brown glazes/washes to the bone areas too...Nameless wrote:paintjob looks preety good, but the skeleton is too clean imo.

Why is the skeleton so grey? I like this clean paintjob and texturing of the shield. But I prefer more naturally colored skeletons...

I agree with this, however bones (or any white objects) can drastically change depending on the lighting so it is somewhat natural. But yeah, the gray doesn't seem to fit the diorama unless the area is supposed to be filled with white light.mahon wrote:Why is the skeleton so grey?
