Okay, got this guy done. It's a GW model, and I may be alone but I LOVE the mini! It came in a three pack for 23$ CDN and I really like all the models. So, inexpensive, good quality, how about that! I've been getting some really good feedback from you guys. Between all the great painting tips and great mini's I am buying out of Poland it's enough to make me consider not spelling Poland with that second "o" in the middle anymore! Kidding, only kidding... about the spelling, not the tips and mini's.... I'll get my coat.
Looks good and clean, but on some places you should have made the shades deeper and the highlights stronger.
Areas like the shoulders and higher folds of the jacket should catch a lot more light compared to the lower parts of the jacket, yet those are practically the same in colour. Same goes for the face. Like the forehead, cheekbones and nose would catch the most light, so should be the brightest in colour.
The base could use a bit of color. Like some dust dathering in the corners and holes.

I used VMC Ivory for the final highlight but what is painfully apparent is I need to spend more time getting the colour concentrated. The pic is bang on, I can't claim that IRL it's brighter at the points mentioned. I just need to make sure I spend more time getting the job done. I find I water my colour down much more as I get each step away from the basecoat. Be it shading or highlighting. By the time I am on my final shade or final highlight I use very thin paint (this mostly comes from a fear of screwing up the previous steps!) so I obviously need to spend more time making those steps work.

The dust is a good point. That's something I could easily add with some MiG pigments I've got. That's seriously like a 2 second job. Much obliged.
Man, the progress you've made impresses me so much!
Never seen the model before but it's really cool and full of character. You could add some additional shading as highlights are OK already IMHO.
Now compare this to your older works, see the difference in neatness, lighting, composition, and color planning. Man, that's a world of difference!
Demi- Don't know that I'd call it a magic button, but I sure do credit CofC for giving me some new persepctive, especially on that manhunter mini. The net is a great place to get world class advice, and the more I act on it I htink the better the results get. I think the biggest (Maybe only) obstacle to people getting better is if they decide they don't want to listen to any crit's. Y'know, you see it all the time. Someone posts a mini up and of course there's ALWAYS things to be improved on, but they just don't really wanna hear it. Ego or whatever. It was a big ole' knock down the peg for me when I first started posting a couple years ago as locally I was quite good. Once I looked past the four walls of my little world and compared to the global standard.... MAN! But I love it!
Great stuff Scott, been watching your progress for a while now and i totally agree with Mahon, you've improved this short while at a rapid rate of knots. This is bar far my favourite piece of yours. Keep going mate, what's next on the agenda?
I got a Rincewind mini for a challenge over on WAMP. But I don't really have much agenda right now. And it feels GREAT!!!! Gave up on doing commission work (mostly) and I just love not having to do anything I don't want. I have a TON of mini's I can't wait to get to, but in the mail coming my way I have some Scibor stuff of which I am super excited for that wierd ass Uglyn Lovelord and some redbox games stuff of which the model I want to work on first is "the keeper". It's just a lot of fun painting with only my own pressure to answer too.
No commission work means I can use the colours I want, paint the way I like, and if I don't like a model I can throw it into a wall if I like. I feel like Conan O'Brien during his last two weeks on the tonight show. WIthout the rejection! Or the 34$ Million settlement! Actually I have no idea how Conan felt/feels. He has red hair, and that makes him unpredictable spiritually I hear.
But thanks a ton guys! Very encouraging. I find myself ending a lot of my sentences with exclamation marks around here!
