A Month of Sundays - my 96hrs of painting challenge

Post by voyager »

No, this doesn't mean I'm going to try and paint for 96hrs straight!!! I'm crazy, but that's just ridiculous! I'm not even setting such a target!

No, I thought I'd see how far I could improve my painting. I hear people say "not if you have a month full of Sundays" in relation to how long something seemingly impossibel might take. Well, there are typically 4 Sundays per month, and each day is 24hrs long. So... if I USED all the Sundays in each month to their fullest, how much could I achieve? Could I improve markedly in that time (there is certainly LOADS of room for it).

Each actual painting session will be timed (eg: if I paint for 3.5hrs, I'll note that down) and recorded here with photographic evidence and any learnings I have along the way. Hopefully people here will provide suggestions, ways to improve, etc. Once I hit the magic mark of 96hrs (which may, quite possibly, be an hour or so over) I'll take the first pictures and put them side by side with the last ones and see if it really worked.

I'll begin this shortly by putting up a small sampling of my current work (all of which are available in my signature link) for a baseline.

SO, let this challenge commence!

(if anyone else wants to join this zany quest, I highly encourage you to do so. I watched a guy on another forum do something very similar - in fact I've literally stolen the idea from him - and the progress he made was pretty impressive!)

Session 0 - Baseline
Session Hours: n/a
Total Time: 0 / 96

These are just for the baseline comparison. No time spent in the challenge as all this has been done prior to the challenge starting. I'm only listing my "best" work here.

Protectorate of Menoth (Privateer Press)

Circle Orboros (Privateer Press)

Wolfen Warrior (Rackham)

Wolfen Prowler (Rackham)
Paintball 40K (GW & scratchbuilt)
(links only, pictures are very long)

I'll also add this:

eHaley (Privateer Press) - !!!WIP!!!

as that was the last figure I touched prior to starting this challenge, and in a way the one that prompted it.

OK, baseline established. I expect to put in some time over the next few days, so there should be some progress shots. I don't expect to have much time through May however, so updates there could be sporadic at best.

Looking great, i might join in this funny challenge with my ToG :) see how much Cryx i can do in 96 hours. Would be an interesting indication for me too. Plus it's good to see another warmahordes player trying to get their stuff painted !

I have over 300pts of WM/H stuff (Menoth, Circle & Gators) with about 30pts fully painted & based (most of that I posted up). I will be at it for a while!

I expect the next update to be Sunday my time, as I intend to do some hard work on Saturday. Tonight too, if I have the time - if that happens I'll get the updates posted as soon as I can.

Cool :) i have about 100pts of Cygnar, about 60% of it is painted and about 100pts of Cryx but very little cryx is actually painted :( so seeing your own personal challenge has helped motivate me too. I look forward to seeing your models all painted :D
