Hiya and welcome.

From what I see, my first advice would be to study the colour theory. To make it simple, it allows you to know which colour works together and with various results (shading, contrast and so on). This is where a colour wheel comes handy.
Putting fluff aside, the main issue with both minis showed is that they have just too many colours on them so nothing catches the eyes.

Oh and drill the gun barrels! :p

o hello :)
ok first tip will be :
stop using whole color whell on 1 model
- choos 2 main colors end add 1 "crash color" as a counter weight
secound :
Dry brush is realy quite advenced tech try simple tech like layering or glazing
-dry brush got simple idea but proper execusion of it is realy hard
good example is Pandera end his works such as :

http://www.coolminiornot.com/241822?browseid=1149761
http://www.coolminiornot.com/240514?browseid=1149761
http://www.coolminiornot.com/183548?browseid=1149761
thats his dry brushed models - point is he also maastered "base tech"
like on thous :
http://www.coolminiornot.com/268009?browseid=1149761
http://www.coolminiornot.com/206483?browseid=1149761
end ocasionaly mix bouth infor of :
http://www.coolminiornot.com/198455?browseid=1149761

so a good dry brush dont get you the "granulated" effect or eny "dusty" feel
but to achive that you need a realy good paint controll - end thats glazing :D

next :
color whell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYZWDEmL ... re=related
this vid tutorial explains some basics about color theory endhow to mix paints to get proper effects
ent this is color whell
http://mudcu.be/sphere/
with a lot of setings like gamatype , like harmony type (clash , complementart , split complementary end so on ) - thous are actualy "auto color themes" that will fit - without aplaing rainbow on a mini

i chacked your flicker Acc end well best mini will be Wood elf end camuflaged space ship
- they got good color theme end keep it right with just 1 or 2 focal points in for of a gem or somthing in clash color

i would encurage yoiu to try end join topic :
viewtopic.php?f=37&t=7969
exorcise shown ther let you forget about contrast based on colors end shows how importent is light / shadow based contrast (end actualy reqire good paint control )

Ok too much colors. I get the hint.
3 older miniatures, basicly 2 colors, allmost everything is drybrushed.
And yes the demon has had flying lessons, so it needs the arm and tail glued, and the wings need a small fix.

Are these better?
I will try and paint a black and white mini but i tried a few months ago when i saw it on the forum i failed bigtime.

Well, even if drybrushed, those are better cause they're not looking like jesters :)
You might want to increased the highlights on the wings, to make some zones pops, like the edges or the "finder" between the membranes of the wings. Besides that, looks ok. For the Eldars, same than the demon try to highlight the edges to make them pop.

color whise older looks better
the bad thing about eeg head is mold line acros the arm end the "sand" effect from Dry Brush
bike share same "dusty" effect - wich is not present (not as visible ) in Pandera's works
easy way to to improve thous are alrdy pointed by Hellspawn

about B/W painting - well i havent wroute enywere (i think) that this is easy - actualy is quite dificult
thats why boys from Masive Hoodo on workshops pumel ppl with demonetes again end again
- they are nice end simple sculpts wich can be painten semi monohromatic - cloths black highlighted to whatever + skin in 1 hue (ivory , blue, pink end so on ) this actualy is training similar to B/W painting but not whole contrast must be achived by difrence in light / shadow
look atthis 1 :
http://www.coolminiornot.com/213716?browseid=1152087
it is piure (almoust) B/W mini end took him 2 deys when a monohromatic but not piure B/W he is able to crate with socket base in 1 meating in front of all ppl
so what is point of this
well if you get this, works such like thous :
http://www.coolminiornot.com/190528?browseid=1152087
http://www.coolminiornot.com/263071?browseid=1152102
http://www.coolminiornot.com/301076?browseid=1152110
will be in your rach - thous operate on contrast crated by light not by color (ofcorse lvl of some of thous reqire a lot of training not only B/W ;) ) - actualy all impresive works base on light / shadow contrast just with added colors
- this is from how human eye works (topic on whole other long article :P)

It seems yoda was wrong, there is no try only failure...
I used black primer and drybrushed white and after that blended and highlighted white.

It seems yoda was wrong, there is no try only failure...
hym Yoda whas wrong in meny cases :)
but i dont think he know a force bout painting

so . outcom of this dry brushed elf are :
- all details are visible iven without colors
- you get dark linking without doing dark linking
- a light in this case white dry brush should be applayed from certain direction like from top or top left / right / front - to imitate a Sun (not from all )
- Dry brush is actualy hard techic to master (look at pandera minis he dry brush this Hac Tao armor )
- this exorcize is much easer with layering tech (over specialy primed mini - "zenital primer" 2 colors black on whole mini end then white from above - thats actualy sets all light corect ^-^ )

so it is a failure - nop it is a step - so dont stop :D

What you read, kylaxi, is mostly true:

- drybrushing is a popular technique because it's easy to teach.

BUT
it's easy to teach the basics only. learning how, when and for what effects to use it WELL takes time and experience. it's not a super technique. it allows to get your miniatures colored fast, it allows to achieve some effects difficult to achieve in other ways, but it's not a secret weapon that will immediately make your minis awesome.

- sometimes you need to take a step back to return to the right track.

YES, there is no failure, only attempt.
NO, there are attempts that are failures,
BUT only if you allow them

if you learn from failed attempt, you gain a hige benefit - experience. this experience is enriched by one additional piece of information: "this didn't work, choose another path".

think about it as walking through a labirynth or a city you don't know.
you check the paths one after another and mark them "not this way". eventually you remain with only the right way. maybe even before trying them all.
but if you don't mark those "wrong ways" you may keep repeating your mistakes.

in this case you fail, you lose time and gain nothing from it
but if you learn a lesson from failed attempts, they're not failures but experience.

clear?

and just like sometimes you need to stop and realize it's a wrong way, you need to move back to the last crossroads and take a different path,
the same applies to painting - if you see you're going in a wrong direction, turn back, return to the last point you were right, and choose a different route from there.

clear?

- now your choice of colors is a problem, yes. these colors don't really look good together. of course, it is possible that someone puts such clothes on, so you can paint a model this way. just don't expect people to like it.

NOW
sit for a moment and think:
- what do you think is your strongest point in miniature painting now?
- what do you feel is your weakest point now?
- what do you think needs improving first?
- what is difficult to you and you need guidance with?

you can let us know what you think about it :)

MY SUGGESTION would be to do an exercise in NEAT and SIMPLE painting:
- take a simple miniature. details are not necessary yet
- apply FLAT colors on it, just pay attention to neat painting
- NO blending at this point, no drybrushing - flat block painting
- you can add BLACKLINING to this

show us the results
