This weekend is Duke of Bavaria, last year I promised myself to take part in the flats category. Don't you think that is because of small number of entries
Here is a wip photo of my first flat:

It looks terrible
There are some workshops on Saturday some maybe someone will show me how to paint those
I think I did wrong on every element - the tamyia primer didn't do it's job and some details got lost. I was painting with diluted paint, but couldn't control it on the flat and it was spilling all over the miniature. Good that I have got some more flats to try on

Not sure how bad your "I was painting with diluted paint, but couldn't control it on the flat and it was spilling all over the miniature" problem is but you could try adding a drop of dish liquid to your water (this will break the surface tension) or use distilled water.

During the summer, when I was preparing myself for Grey Seer painting competition in Gorzow Wlkp. I have noticed that I almost don't have any sci-fi miniatures. So I decided to start a small project for next year competition (probably not GS). The miniature is Grimorium from Anima Tactics.
I will try to use different weathering techniques.

It will be a robot running away from some lab. I was thinking of making a hole in one corner, as if a there was an explosion. I will add some wires comming out of the floor to make it look more natural.

Some progress on the dio:
Everything was primed with chaos black and given a random coat of scorched brown. I will try different weathering techniques here. So the plan is:
- barrel -> AK worn effect
- case -> pure hair spray
- wall -> hair spray + salt
