Never seen such a poor lvl on a painting competition

When I see minis like this:

or like this :

I just want to throw up, especially on an event like this

I had a feeling it was, given that it was scratch, and the sculpt was very reminiscent of his steampunk Dorothy. Plus it just seemed like his style, the base especially.

I gave a few 9's (Yarry + mino, octopusguy,...) and other than that there was a lot of mediocre stuff.
Yep, same. I think I gave 9s to Yarry+Mino, octopusguy, Sebastian's alice, and the ork bust, maybe ten 8s, and everything else was unremarkable.

I too am puzzled by the crap entries. I'm not quite sure why someone would enter a competition if that's the best they can do, but maybe some people just do it to be ironic. And when you're at a convention with several thousand crap painters, and maybe twenty good ones, you can end up with a lot more crap painters than good ones entering, even if only a small fraction of them enter.

BTW hellspawn, that martial arts guy was one of two minis that I gave a 1. :P Most entries—maybe 60%—got a 4.

Imo they really should take a first cut before putting up pictures, so the internet voters don't have to look at all of the crap.

It looks like Gea was by JMPN. I think a Spaniard's going to take home the 10k this year. :)

wow, these two presented here by Hellspawna are much more impressive than the winners. seriosuly, it's impressive to see such... uncommon... works on a painting contest. not very positive impression though ;)

Sebastian's and Jose's works were my favorites.
Octopus guy was done by our team mate Flameon.

well, they allowed all quality levels, so two presented entries are fine too.

allowed. sure.
if these were serious entries - that's cool, people try to present their works.
if these were entered just for amusement, well, they have to prepare for some negative reactions :P

Well, I know it's open to all level, but those were just example of the poor quality of most of the entries this year, I would expect from a contest on Cmon like the Crystal Brush where there is 10k dollars to win that the global level would be much higher than that. Honestly, it would be seriously better if they would do like GW on their GD, ie some preselections, cause when you vote and end up giving more 1 than everything it's annoying.
I know contest are for all, but there, I would have liked to have a higher level (considering the prize)
