The last sigh (review and painting)

Hello guys,

after all those brutal drunes I decided to paint something more subtle. Here is Last sigh – mini from Figone. This is my first figure from this manufacturer, so now let’s give it a closer look.

The mini is made of high quality resin. The details are really great, despite they’re quite subtle.

The mini has 2 assembly options – she can hold a bird (probably a hawk) or eastern looking axe/halberd. I like her more with the first option. The quality of the cast is great and almost no work is required before painting.

And here is another mini from Figone – Rhymaiss. As you can see, the details are also superb, almost no mould lines are visible. I’m sure I will paint it soon. I’ll only have to choose appropriate base and paint scheme…

Let’s return to Last sigh – here is how I painted her. I wanted her to look like eastern princess from One thousand and one nights tale, so I used rather clear and vivid colors. The color scheme is similar to the one on manufacturer’s site.

On the base I used oriental arch with door – resin scenery element also made by Figone. It fits this mini perfectly. The floor is made of pieces of plastic card.

Overall, painting this mini was a pleasure. I don’t know why, but painting figures of beautiful ladies is always pleasant 🙂

Cheers,

JerzyK

Doggy style

Hello guys,

time for big update. I finished Jowan of Carn Dhu with his hounds. The minis are form Mierce Miniatures.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Jowan is typical for Ysian drunes – lots of muscles, fur and armor. He has many nice details to paint.

The skin of doggies is dark grey, although I tried to make contrasts between shadows and highlights clear and sharp. I have chosen purple as the color for wounds on their skin. To make the wounds more visible, I used light purple (almost white) glazes on their edges. I’m glad that there were only 3 dooggies to paint 😉

Jowan with the beasts is a nice addition to my drunes warband. They’re ready to loot some villages!

JerzyK’s Corner – Time for some WH40K miniatures!

Recently I painted some new Warhammer 40K miniatures, that I did not show yet. As you can see, they’re all Space Marines. At least, they’re not all blue 🙂 They are all painted to gaming standard.

A project suitable for dryads came to my mind, but won’t Avatar be more up-to-date? Maybe drayds are  passé already… I am googling for an answer.

Judging by the number of dryad-themed portraits, it seems a common thing for women to dream about close contact with a tree, while Schwarzenegger has always secretly dreamed of an Avatar lookalike 😉

There’s more of it, for example:

Tego jest więcej, na przykład:

And how to avoid being discouraged about your concept?

No, no, I am not giving up! I am browsing the history of dryads in the world of miniatures. I remember a magnificent dryad, which I always dreamed to HAVE 😀 so this is where I am starting my digest:

I jak tu nie zniechęcić sie do pomysłu?

Nie, nie. Nie daje za wygraną, przeglądam historię driad w świecie figurkowym. Pamiętam wspaniałą driadę którą zawsze mi się marzyło MIEĆ 😀 i od niej zaczynam przegląd:

Just as enchanting as always 🙂

Next I browse CMON and it seems there are just two popular dryad models, and most works use the same choice of models. The number ones are:

Zawsze tak samo zachwycająca 🙂

Następnie zaglądam na CMON i okazuje się, że są dwa popularne modele driad i niewiele prac wyróżnia się wyborem modeli. Numery jeden to:

Dryad painted by PaintMinion

It’s a Reaper model, this one was painted by PaintMinion, but there are lots of color versions. No surprise, as the model is cool. It shares the first place ex aequo with Games Workshop dryads, here painted by Target.

Nic dziwnego, model fajny. Pierwsze miejsce dzieli ex aequo z driadami z Games Workshopu, tu w wydaniu Target.

Then there’s some hope:

Jest coś pokrzepiającego:

The model is original, characterful and beautifully painted. There are some less popular models as well:

Oryginalny model, klimatyczny i pięknie pomalowany. Są jeszcze inne mniej popularne modele:

I expected to find something more like this, where the dryad builds the ambience being a secondary character:

Znalazłam też coś czego spodziewałam się znaleźć więcej, właśnie jako drugoplanowa postać driada świetnie buduje klimat:

IMHO it’s better to come up with something by yourself than to paint a 50th copy of the Reaper dryad?

And how’s things with the Na’vi – the Avatar movie race? Are they popular, despised or omitted?

I only found two models:

IMHO fajniej jest samemu coś wymyślić niż iść na łatwiznę i malować 50. kopię Reaperowej driady?

A jak stoi sprawa z Na’vi – rasą z Avatara? Są popularni, pogardzani, czy pominięci?

Znalazłam dwa modele:

And this one was made by Francacreu in SSfirm. It’s 8″ tall and was painted by the author’s friend – Alex Lopez

It’s easier to find a costume than a miniature ;-] Is the movie gone with the wind already? The decision is up to the customer.

Łatwiej o kostium niż o figurkę ;-] Czyżby film przeminął z wiatrem? Jestem rozdarta, niech klient podejmie decyzję.

Can you BEAR that?

Hello guys! Lately I painted some bear – Beowa from Mierce Miniatures. I love his savage look!

Painting fur was tiresome, but not so much as I thought. After painting the base color (slighty lighter than the overall shade of the final color) I applied 3 washes and 3 drybrushes (better more of them than less). That was fast and pleasant 😉 Then came the fun part – with good tipped brush I applied final 2-3 highlights on every strand of hair. I was really happy when it was over. Painting the clothes and all the details was the last touch. I hope that you like the final result.
