recently I painted another deadly beauty – Bella the partisan from Statesque Miniatures. It’s the first mini I paint from this manufacturer. The figure is made of metal and the quality of the cast is good, the mould lines are subtle and easy to remove.
The customer wanted her to look like Cuban resistance fighter, similat to other mini he found on the net, and so I painted her. The posters are printed ones (by myself), cut and soaked in mixture of water and white glue. They stick to the wall (made of thick plastic card) very well. After some weathering the wall with posters looks natural and I am happy with the result.
Slowly but successively my Ysian drunes warband is getting bigger. Here is another warrior, this time with a bow (there will be 5 such ones):
And here are so far painted drunes (12 in total). Another ones are assembled and waiting for their time to come 🙂
I think that the next drune will be somewhat bigger… Stay tuned!
not so long ago (September 2012) I took part in Relic Knights CoolMiniOrNot Kickstarter. Last month the minis have finally arrived to me (!), so I decided to paint one of them. I’ve chosen Marie-Claude, one of Cerci Speed Circuit girls.
Like all Relic Knights figures, she is sculpted in manga style (large eyes and large…. other women attributes 🙂 – some may like it, some not, although she still looks “normal” comparing to the other minis from this range, despite quite strange pose). Speaking of the sculpts, the minis are made of plastic and the quality of the casts is mediocre to good. There were very few mould lines (easy to remove) and all the parts fitted well. What’s interesting, I had to use epoxy glue because normal plastic cement just did not want to glue this plastic.
Some details (like hair) had to be improved with paintjob, because they were rather flat, but this is plastic mini so you cannot expect too much…
I painted her in bright colors (it’s manga!). Painting white is not easy if you want to achieve both contrasts and smooth transitions. As the base for white I used Ghost Grey from Vallejo Game Color, and I added white for highlights or black for shadows.
One the base I used one of base inserts that were part of this Kickstarter.
And here is another girl that I recently painted – Kingdom Death White Speaker (although I did not paint her white 😉 ). Needless to say, the quality of this resin cast was “slightly” better than plastic Marie-Claude 🙂 I think she has the most naked skin of all the minis I’ve ever painted 🙂
I chose ancient/mystery base for this mini. The floor tiles are pieces of plastic card and the column is made of piece of spare plastic sprue.
after all those brutal drunes I decided to paint something more subtle. Here is Last sigh – mini from Figone. This is my first figure from this manufacturer, so now let’s give it a closer look.
The mini is made of high quality resin. The details are really great, despite they’re quite subtle.
The mini has 2 assembly options – she can hold a bird (probably a hawk) or eastern looking axe/halberd. I like her more with the first option. The quality of the cast is great and almost no work is required before painting.
And here is another mini from Figone – Rhymaiss. As you can see, the details are also superb, almost no mould lines are visible. I’m sure I will paint it soon. I’ll only have to choose appropriate base and paint scheme…
Let’s return to Last sigh – here is how I painted her. I wanted her to look like eastern princess from One thousand and one nights tale, so I used rather clear and vivid colors. The color scheme is similar to the one on manufacturer’s site.
On the base I used oriental arch with door – resin scenery element also made by Figone. It fits this mini perfectly. The floor is made of pieces of plastic card.
Overall, painting this mini was a pleasure. I don’t know why, but painting figures of beautiful ladies is always pleasant 🙂
time for big update. I finished Jowan of Carn Dhu with his hounds. The minis are form Mierce Miniatures.
Jowan is typical for Ysian drunes – lots of muscles, fur and armor. He has many nice details to paint.
The skin of doggies is dark grey, although I tried to make contrasts between shadows and highlights clear and sharp. I have chosen purple as the color for wounds on their skin. To make the wounds more visible, I used light purple (almost white) glazes on their edges. I’m glad that there were only 3 dooggies to paint 😉
Jowan with the beasts is a nice addition to my drunes warband. They’re ready to loot some villages!
